my mom and I got evicted from our home over a year ago. we have been living in our car ever since, but recently our car got repossessed and we had no where left to go except the mosques for help since the shelters in our city are either mixed gendered, or completely full. a local mosque helped us out with paying for a motel for a week and some food but that was all they could provide for us. I don't have service on my phone anymore and the motels internet is all I have for only the next week to figure something out and keep us off the streets.
I know that this is a horrible time for almost everyone, and most people right now need help and our situation isnt any different or special. but I have tried reaching out to social services for help but all they told me to do was fill out some applications for section 8 housing and referred us to a mixed gender shelter in downtown. I know that we shouldnt be picky but downtown saint louis is already extremely unsafe and sleeping in the same room with men is something me and my mother just cant do for safety reasons.
I am diabetic and my mother has a handfull of conditions that require medications. both of us have not been able to afford refilling these in almost a month and I dont know what else to say except our situation is getting so bad that the only option I have is to try and crowdfund and hopefully get us on our feet again, or at least being able to extend our motel and refill our medications and get some more food while we wait for a female only shelter to have availability.
when we were evicted, I only fell behind on rent because I lost my job. I went on unemployment and those checks were the only reason we were able to keep paying the payments on our car and were able to buy food/medicine/keep ourselves alive and off the streets for as long as we have.
