Eddie can and will fight back if he needs to.
So, it is my firm belief that, while Eddie was very likely put through hell in middle school in terms of bullying, no one was ready for him to start fighting back in Freshman Year.
He always had a smart mouth, one that would get him into trouble regularly, but suddenly he walks through the doors for his Freshman year of High School and his bite is just as bad as his bark.
I know people may take issue with this interpretation, because so many people see him as a sweet Angel baby.
Like, yeah yeah yeah, he’s a sweetheart who wouldn’t hurt a fly.
He’s a poor queer-coded metalhead in a normie town in the 80’s and his father was evidently a criminal.
I mean, when he perceived a possible threat, he reacted to it by wresting Steve Harrington, actual jock, gets in a fight every single year, beefed up Steve Harrington, against a wall and pressing a broken bottle to his throat.
For this reason, and the fact that he’s literally the drug dealer at the school and if he decides to stop supplying, those rebellious little suburban house parties could get real boring, I highly doubt anyone risks getting physical towards him post middle school, especially after news spreads that he broke a guys nose for shoving one of his friends against a locker.
I mean, all those rings must be good for something, right?
Eddie. Munson. Can. Fight.
Not like an MMA pro or anything. He’s no Billy Hargrove.
But he is a freaky little metal loving DnD nerd who survived being a Senior alongside Billy Hargrove.
I figure he only really had to fight back or prove he could once or twice, and then the rumor-mill did the rest of the work for him.
“Don’t fuck with Munson. He’s a freak.”
That’s why he can get away with his dramatic little speeches on top of cafeteria tables and his very direct taunts toward the jocks.
He’s built a reputation for himself, half based in truth, half based on his carefully cultivated Freak facade.
That’s my two cents, at least.
