      THAT’S A LOADED QUESTION, and bash rubs the back of his neck for a moment.   “ i’m not sure if lou told you anything about, uh, what was written in the burn book for me, ”   knowing lou she probably did,   “ but… when i had come to you about my parent’s death, it’s because i was in witness protection. here. i couldn’t get out of it until they figured out whether their deaths had to do with us, and if we were in danger, which is why i was looking into it. but apparently they had been killed by caledonia, and now with it gone… we’re free to go now. and as much as i like it here, it’s just… not for me. ”   that’s probably the easiest way to put it.   “ you’re both welcome any time. ”

dimitri listened to him quietly, staring off at the crowds of people that were laughing, dancing, hanging out around them. one of his hands settled into the pocket of his slacks, the other holding his drink, which he took a sip out of. “while i would disagree,” he started, smiling at the other gently. “i support your decision. and i am glad that you’re safe now.” he nodded his head once. “i’m sure she’ll be eager to get a tan,” he teased. “if she doesn’t burn before that.” 

Alec chuckled a little under his breath at his friend’s question. “I do question it sometimes,” he replied. Sometimes it was just hard for him to separate the tiny baby with tubes sticking out of her with the capable young woman his sister was now. “Does Rowan count?” he asked, even though he knew it didn’t. 

dimitri couldn’t help but laugh softly under his breath, nodding his head. not in understanding, he didn’t have any siblings that he knew of, but in agreement. “i don’t think she’d count in lou’s eyes,” he noted, shaking his head once. “but if it makes you feel better, i think she counts.” 

“Yeah you’re right. I hope she gets some sexy Bond-type as a partner,” she lightly chuckled under her breath. Lou took a moment to watch her friend and to enjoy the steady movement of his fingers circling her hip before she shook herself out of the sad mood that she was falling into. Like she had just said to him, this was a party and that meant celebrating. “Let’s dance!” she insisted with a bright smile. “And it’s my graduation so you can’t say no.”

dimitri snorted lightly. “is that what you wish you landed?” he teased, because they both know that that wasn’t exactly her type. he pulled his hand back and took hers into his own, rolling his eyes in good-nature. “you say that as if i had any choice in the matter to begin with,” he pointed out, moving toward the dance floor. “i have found that i lack the ability to tell you no.” 

          “pretty good, actually. dimitri, right?” drew greeted as he shook hands with the other before he nods; the thought of walking across the stage sooner than he thought not quite hitting him just yet if he was being honest. “yeah, i am. it’s..crazy to think about.” he paused, though a note from a mentor gets him back in the conversation quickly enough. “yeah, a few companies i’m thinking of. but i’m most likely gonna visit my family before i start taking on anything.”

he nodded his head. taking his hand back, he pushed his hands into the pocket of his slacks, looking between drew and the crowd around them. “it is an adjustment, leaving school and going back to the real world,” he tells him honestly, because why lie? “but family will definitely help. where do they live?” he asked, raising an eyebrow curiously. 

       “ YEAH, I FIND IT HARD TO BLAME PRESIDENT SUTTON, ”   he admits, though bash may be biased.   “ it’s just been… a string of misfortune that got a lot worse before it got better. ”   kind of like last year, but he’s not going to point that out.   “ i’m not actually coming back next year, so… i’m a little happy to say that, ”   bash smiles slightly, despite it being bittersweet.   “ i think i’ll feel the same. i’m going back to arizona. so if you’re ever in the area, look me up. ”

dimitri nodded his head in understanding. he had long since discovered that it was never one gear, but a number of cogs that made up the inner workings of any operation. "is there a particular reason?” he asked. there was no judgement in dimitri’s tone. the last time they’d really spoken besides a number of texts was after the last time he’d seen his father. “i’m sure lou would love to visit, since it’s warm,” he laughed. “i think i can make a trip or two.” 

“Dimitri!” He said cheerfully. “I almost said that I’m surprised to see you here but your girlfriend still goes to school here.” Well, not anymore because Lou was graduating the next day. “I’ve been great. Work has been tiresome but that’s to be expected. How are you?” Emmett asked before pointing off into the crowd. “Yeah she is, she’s over there talking to her cousin.” 

“yes, and graduating,” he pointed out. he needed to be the supportive boyfriend, after all! dimitri nodded his head in understanding. cora had been working him rather hard recently. “i was in london two days ago. i am still experiencing some jet lag,” he confessed. he turned his head to clock vida’s whereabouts and nodded once more. “how are you two?” he asked. 

Alec’s gaze followed Dimitri’s to look out at his sister on the dance floor, having fun with one of her friends. It made him happy to see her happy and thriving at the school, even if he did worry about her safety. “Yeah she does, despite everything. She’s got a way of…seeing the positive in everything.” 

dimitri smirked, looking over at his best friend with a knowing expression on his face. “are you sure that you’re related?” he teased. alec wasn’t necessarily a negative person, but in dimitri’s eyes, he was definitely more of a realist. “lou is going to want to know if you’ve danced with anyone,” he started. “make up a name so i can appease her.” 

“Do I need to remind you that this is a party Comrade?” Lou purred as she leaned into his embrace. Her brain was filled with a complicated mix of emotions: a buzz from the champagne, happiness over her boyfriend being back with her, and sadness since she knew that the past four years were coming to an end. “I think so,” she answered with a small sigh as she gazed out at her best friend. “I can’t believe she’s going to London.”

“as if you would ever let me forget it,” he shot back, but his words were more amused than venomous. he was just teasing her. they both looking out toward rowan for a long moment, but dimitri found his gaze moving back to his girl. “i go to london at least once a month,” he reminded her. “she will be fine. and you can always come with me.” 

     he wonders how many alumni actually know about his mission, but with alec’s sister here and dimitri’s girlfriend, he’s not too surprised it got to them. “i’m feeling like i need to practice more sparring than anything else,” he admits with a laugh. “that way the next one i don’t get a fractured rib.”

dimitr gave the other a small yet amused smile. “i’ve found that practice doesn’t always make perfect,” he agreed, nodding his head in understanding. “are you healing well?” he asked, looking at the other expectantly. “i know rib fractures are quite a hassle to heal from.” he had experience with them himself.

      “ JUST WONDERING WHAT IT MUST BE LIKE to hear about everything from an outside perspective, ”   he tells him, though bash is still wondering just how much dimitri knows about all of it :   the burn book, the double agents, the fact that apparently there were secret societies ?   it’s been a wild year.   “ true. did you miss it ? ”

“i feel bad for all of you,” he admitted, shaking his head once. “i don’t understand how the president allowed it to get to the level that it did, but i also know that it was not all her fault.” he also felt lucky that he hadn’t been here when it happened. there was things in his past that he had done that he didn’t want the public to know about. “i do not miss gallagher, but the company i kept,” he told the other. “how are you doing?” 

        “ SO HOW MUCH HAS LOU KEPT YOU UPDATED with all that happened this year ? ”   bash asks, taking a sip of the drink in his hand.   “ is it weird to be back here, after graduating ? ”   @dimitriorlov​

“we talk almost every day,” he confessed, laughing softly as he watched the woman in question laugh with her friends from across the room. he looked down at bash, raising an eyebrow. “why?” maybe the other wanted to know if he had heard what had went down, or if he had news of his own. “a little. but i always knew i’d be back to watch lou graduate,” he pointed out. 

“Feels a little weird to be back doesn’t it?” Alec contemplated, half to himself and half to Dimitri, who stood beside him. It was a miracle that he had gotten his best friend to leave Lou’s side for even a second but he had Rowan to thank for that. “Every thing seems so different now.”

“yeah,” he said, nodding his head in understanding while he brought his drink up to his mouth and took a sip. he licked his lips and turned to alec, raising an eyebrow. “i suppose things have changed,” he agreed. “does your sister like it here?” he asked, finding mandy in the crowd and watching her for a long moment before turning back to his best friend. “the last year has been rough for the students, or so i’m told.”
