Before There Was A Song
There is always a moment before music introduces itself.
A room.
Five people.
Silence.
Someone reaches for a drum.
Someone else answers with a guitar.
The voice doesn't arrive to lead.
It arrives to listen.
This is how Sun Xa Experiment writes.
Not through certainty.
But through trust.
The photographs above are not performance photographs.
They're evidence.
Evidence that music can become movement.
Evidence that sound can become ceremony.
Evidence that five people can spend twelve years searching for something they've never heard before.
Today we call one of those searches "Phakama Moya."
Tomorrow it may become something else.
We don't know the title of the album yet.
But perhaps that's the point.
The destination has never interested us as much as the journey.
Every rehearsal rewrites us.
Every performance reminds us why we began.
Every audience becomes another voice inside the music.
Soon the Babhekile video will close one chapter.
Another will open.
Berlin is still echoing inside us.
Mogopa is calling us home.
The Garden Route waits.
The festivals wait.
The future waits.
Until then...
We'll keep showing up every Thursday.
We'll keep listening.
We'll keep building.
Because somewhere between the first drumbeat and the last note...
We always find ourselves.
