I am justice!

Now that Light has himself established, there is nothing stopping him from testing the limits of the Death Note. He is almost certain that the notebook still has some power, even in Solitude. It has to. It is likely that writing a name will still kill that person like it normally would; the only setback is whether or not the death itself is permanent.

If deaths in Solitude are only temporary, Light will simply have to run more tests to know just how much power it has compared to the goat deities of this realm. But that is for another time. For now, and most importantly, he needs to test whether or not the heart attack rule can still be used. 

Finding a suitable guinea pig was laughably easy as well. A certain “ruff” he found fits the criteria perfectly: a criminal, a brute, violent and unpredictable. If the Death Note only kills him temporarily, then it will be, at the very least, a nice break from the monster. If it’s permanent...Light can know for certain that the world will be much better without him. 

“Kufufufu..~ So I’ve heard you’ve been taken an inkling to taking control of the ugly world that’s littered with juveniles.” being the ever dramatic one, he called out to Light from a rooftop, jumping down from it only after to speak directly to him.

“It sounds very amusing to witness.” he wanted to see how far a regular human could go. What were the methods that had such self-assurance. He laughed with a shrug. “I’m even willing to lend you a hand if it means being able to see what brings such confidence.”

It was always a thrill to see what kind of web it would form.

Light cannot reasonably be surprised to have someone jump from a rooftop to greet him. In fact, this has only given him a specific case of deja vu.

Outwardly, Light is calm as ever. What bothers him internally, is how sure Mukuro is that Light has any business in passing judgement. Light has not used the Death Note, and thus, he can’t be sure what type of power he actually has here. Already, the absolute rules of the Death Note have bent around the rules of Solitude: here, there is no sign of Ryuk, who is bound to the owner of the Death Note. Light can surmise that Solitude may only cancel out certain rules; the rest, he will have to discover on his own. He can only chuckle dismissively at Mukuro’s comment.

“Me? Taking control? I’m only working for the SPF. I’m afraid my influence is kept within the boundaries of the law, if you want to call it that in a place like this.” Light shrugs it off modestly. He has no guilt on his own conscience, nor does he have any reason to be skeptical of Mukuro. Conversely, it would be foolish to reject Mukuro if he truly is “lending a hand.” Already, the wheels are turning, and he may have a use for Mukuro yet. Light will simply have to test him. 

“Of course, I’d be happy to introduce you to my day-to-day life, if detective work is what interests you. I’ll admit, it can be pretty boring, but Halloween inspires occult activity. According to Solitude’s records, criminal activity and accidents begin to rise during this time of the year...

A week on this island, researching and exploring its society and resources, had confirmed one thing for Nori: There would be no leaving, and he had better find a way to settle here for the time being. That was what brought him to the local police department. Though it was startling to discover this was the only criminal justice-oriented building on the island, it was the best place to start.

“Ah, hello.” He greeted the person at the desk, surprised by how young he appeared to be. “Are you the one in charge of management here?”

After what Light would consider to be a chaotic introduction to his new life in Solitude, things suddenly mellowed out. He was left to tend to duties regarding the SPF on his own, for the most part. The tasks themselves were never too overwhelming; residents had an inclination to face most events with apathy, from what Light has been able to ascertain. Every so often, a cat will get stuck in a tree, but there have hardly been any cases worth note. It’s called Solitude for a reason, and it’s almost depressing. Admittedly, it was a test of discipline to not test out the notebook in this odd place. "Goat gods” and their divine intervention have given Light little incentive to draw attention to himself, but he has also been stagnating in boredom. This was not part of his plan at all. 

He had almost began to zone out when the door chimed open. Light tried to avoid sounding too eager to greet someone entering the building, but he was happy to see another face. 

“... ... ...”

“It’s pretty dangerous for such an upright young man to be walking around at this time of night.”

What’s with this guy? Something about him already has Light on guard; outwardly, however, Light remains ever cordial.  “Me? Yes, it is pretty late...I was just finishing up some errands after work.” It’s not a lie, either. Solitude has a relatively low crime-rate, but every so often, certain events will keep him on his toes--like damage control after the infamous “robopocalypse.”

Mukuro has an interesting perspective on all this, Light will admit. It would be beneficial to make “friends” with this sort of person for many reasons; most paramount of all being the fact that Light does not want this man as an enemy. Light will have to progress carefully. He can’t help feeling as though he is being studied by Mukuro, just as Light is doing the same to him. A type of interaction he is all too familiar with. It’s like a game. 

Light doesn’t care to learn much about Mukuro’s past–only the need-to-knows of who he is in the present. He nods and politely shrugs it off.  “That’s okay. There’s no need for delving into your personal life at your own expense. For all we know, our Japans could be different from one another. The residents of Solitude come from alternate versions of Earth, if I’m not mistaken.” One version where Shinigami exist, and another version without a Death Note. Light may not be able to achieve goat god-like omniscience, but he can still possess the knowledge of these facts. 

“It kind of makes you feel like your own version isn’t as special, doesn’t it? But at the same time, the world just got a lot bigger. Maybe I’m a bit of an optimist, but I think that gives us an exciting opportunity.” 

His eyes slightly gleamed at the comment. Surely there wasn’t any merit in knowing about the past, but there was always something about human nature, they wanted to hear the stories of other people so they could be persuaded whether their intentions were righteous or vicious to be categorized.

“Mm..~ How glad I am that you understand” Light didn’t appear as an exception to those people. With an air of potential danger, mixed with a high intelligence. A potential danger to cross blades against, but exactly the kind of people to hang around with, the one who brought colour into the monochrome and bleak life.

It’s amusing to think it was as if walking on a road knowing it will all cave down. Or slipping on ice with a wrong step, only for that ice to sharpen and pierce through. “You’re certainly not, some of their Earths.. we wouldn’t dare label it as such. Ah but you’d understand when you meet them.”

Someone of his calibur.

“Indeed, it does” he laughed. It was definitely better than his view of the islands being prison in a veil of paradise. Of course, it was up for debate. 

“On a standpoint, it could make you wonder if it was made for you” or the thought of ‘why couldn’t I have created this world’

Everyone is a threat until proven otherwise, and Mukuro is no exception, especially without Light knowing if he possesses any of these superhuman abilities. However, Light cannot be outwardly suspicious. As far as anyone knows, he is just another young adult swept up by the goats, and he needs to maintain that. 

“That is an interesting take on it, Mukuro-kun,” Light chuckles, “but I have my reservations on just how kind these goats are to us mortals.” Mortal is a safe word--it protects Light’s own identity of whether or not he is human; similarly, not all supernatural entities can be expected to be immortal. Perhaps Mukuro could lend some insight to this as well. Already, he has confirmed that these worlds the goats choose to pull their victims from aren’t necessarily from alternate versions of Earth, but different worlds altogether. That must mean that the goats have no limits.

With only himself and Shinichi as the working members of the SPF–and Rika, too, he supposes, although she seems to work everywhere–it didn’t take much time for Light to learn that they had gained a new member. 

Light certainly didn’t mean to intrude in whatever they were doing, but a flying box came a little too close to his face for him to keep quiet. 

“Excuse me. Are you alright?” 

it was nice to finally find sentient life, digital or not, the other was a relief that they weren’t at least alone here. it seemed rather desolate - although there were signs of life. they didn’t seem todisturbed by their new situation, rather concerned look was on their face after the wave of relief in a smile. 

             *  a little – i’m looking fo someone. have you seen a tall woman?’ 

it was so hard to describe mastemon to someone who hadn’t actually had the chance to exprience her. tall wasn’t enough to describe the digimon at all. he began making a butterfly motion with his hands, crossing his thumbs in a fashion the other would understand.

             *  er, she has wings - ten of them - oh and she looks like a robot!’

It’s an odd description, for sure, but one that Light is able to take in stride. A tall, robotic woman with ten wings--it isn’t the strangest thing Light has heard of since he has arrived in this place, and he is certain that it won’t be the last. 

“...No, I’m afraid I have not seen her.” Light maintains polite composure; this will be his peer and new colleague, after all. Treating everyone with dignity and respect is a part of his responsibility as a working detective, even if they may seem a little...off.

At first, Light is expecting these creatures that El describes to be something like Shinigami; sinister, and otherworldly. Or something from out of a comic book or a fairy tale. He almost questions the technology El has with the red and white ball, but his attention is quickly pulled away. What he is greeted with is…really cute. 

He tentatively holds out his hand to greet the creature to allow it to smell him. He knows that’s common practice for most animals, anyway. 

“Slyveon, huh…? I can see how it resembles a fox, yeah. It’s kind of cat-like, too.”  Furthermore, this “Sylph” looks intelligent, and totally trusting of El to tolerate being stored inside of a capsule of some sort. It’s fascinating, and what El says has Light’s undivided attention once again. 

“Are you suggesting that the goats are Pokemon, then? Since a Pokemon created your world, I suppose it isn’t out of the question.” 

  『 Perhaps. 』

It’s really not likely, but it’s not impossible, and they have to admit as such.  As Sylph begins to sniff at Light, and eventually curl around his legs and demand pets, El begins to mumble to themself, puzzling through the question.

  『 However, these goats seem…different. Their powers derive from worldly        sources, rather than the moves and abilities that normal Pokemon often        share. And while it’s true that some Pokemon can control the universe, this        is supposedly a world outside of Arceus’s sphere of influence, and I doubt        there are any as powerful as Him, even with a PULSE system….however,        that would explain the sudden dimensional rearrangement, but what about        the…… 』

They trail off and glance back at Light apologetically.

  『 Apologies, I was just thinking about how possible that would be. I don’t think        they’re Pokemon, however. If they were, then it would be possible to capture        them, and I doubt they could be caught in a world such as this. 』

Light absently grants Sylph the affection he desires, while continuing to be attentive to what El is saying.  ...this is supposedly a world outside of Aeceus’s sphere of influence, Light repeats internally. The fact there are other godlike-beings ruling over other domains, without them influencing one another, further confirms the ideas of the multi-verse theory. It sounds like something from science-fiction, but Light can’t be too critical--this is the reality he is in now, and he’s no stranger to the supernatural. 

What El is saying would also suggest that it’s possible that the Shinigami would not have influence over realms outside of the one Light is familiar with, yet their Pokemon creatures are able to exist just fine here. It’s an unsurprising detail, but it means that Light has to test the viability of the Death Note here, as soon as possible. 

“It’s alright. It’s only speculation, after all. It might not be wise to test the goats’ patience anyway.” Light comes back to the conversation without appearing to be too distracted, and gestures back outside, where the hail continues to pellet the street and drum against the roof over head. 

It would seem as though tragedies are every-day occurrences here. This might not be the case, if only Light had known the names of key individuals. He could then demonstrate his power and put some of these animals into their place.

The name definitely takes Light by surprise; just hearing it almost makes him want to laugh. But, he keeps himself composed and hardly reacts to it outwardly. 

“…They’re goats, yes–they would be livestock to someone like me, and certainly are not deities…but they appear human to us. Or so I’ve gathered. I only just got here.” Light doesn’t know how to respond to El’s speculation initially. Goats are unfamiliar to them, so what sort of creatures come from their world of origin? Light will allow himself to lose focus for just a brief amount of time. It’s only polite conversation, that’s all. Large hail stones continue to beat against the pavement and roof outside, but the noise soon fades into the background. 

“…But now I’m curious, if it’s alright to ask. You come from a place where you’ve never heard of goats. What would be familiar to you?” 

   『 Pokemon. 』

They say it matter of factly before pulling out a small red and white ball. Clicking the button in the middle, it expands before releasing a red light, which soon takes the shape of a pink bipedal Pokemon. Syl, is its cry. Sylveon?

  『 In your world, creatures such as goats act as livestock, but we only have a        select one or two species for that. In most cases, Pokemon are our friends        and allies, in life and in battles. 』

The bipedal Pokemon at El’s feet curls around their legs and intertwines one long ribbon with one of El’s arms before trotting over to Light to inspect him carefully.

  『 This is Sylph; his species is Sylveon, and I believe that in your world, the        equivalent would be a fox? 』

They vaguely remember the Pokedex calling Eevee a fox-like Pokemon, so they assume that is the case.

  『 Likewise, our One Creator, He with One Thousand Arms, Arceus, takes the        forme of something similar to a goat. That is one aspect of our religion, and        that is why I’m not as surprised to see one of His kind ruling over the        islands. 』

It’s subtle, but Light catches Mukuro correcting himself. The Isles de Solitude were a single island at one time, and now there are multiple in its place. The history is interesting, sure, but this is only supplementary information. 

“…I was skeptical at first, but it would be remarkable for every single person here to be included in some sort of…mass delusion. I still find it hard to believe, but it’s consistent with my own independent research. Are we now the livestock?” Light keeps his tone in check; he’s only joking, but there may be a double meaning to his words. 

He says he’s skeptical; in reality, he is furious. This drives a stake right through the center of his plans. It’s inconvenient and infuriating that goats, of all simple creatures, are the reason for his sudden relocation to Solitude. In spite of this, however, Light grasps his resolve tighter than before–to become this world’s god–regardless of whatever the world is inhabited by. 

“Anyway, I plan to be as productive here as I was back home.” Light smiles. “Your name sounds Japanese, but of course, I don’t want to assume.” 

“A mass delusion.. that would be interesting, but it certainly is not. We could be in a world apart from the one we are familiar to.” this was to say, not everyone were knowledgable about “Earth”, as they had their own. This could be one of those.. they were a little too realistic to be delusions. Coming from Mukuro of all people, a ‘master’ of deception and delusion.

“I, myself used to think it was a child’s imagination that created this, unemphasized, it might not also be the case..~”

“Live..stock?” Bringing a few fingers near his lips, he laughed at his question “That is exactly how it is! Ever see a slave freed through vengeance and how they turn the tables upon their cruel masters?”

Even if he liked to jest, for someone who hasn’t been to this place for too long, to be able to come up with hypothesis as these, researching before he even spoke, Light must be a very studious one, a frightening one at most.

“Oh that? You could assume all that you want..~” he smiled back, although bitterly. It may have been a subject he didn’t want expand on. “There’s nothing to gain from that piece” if this man could kill him by simply knowing his name.. that would be pretty interesting.

it was ODD, having to actually look for mastemon and gazimon. all three were joined at the hip - usually. it was odd not having arata or nokia around either - no texts were sending or coming through. so how could you look for your friends, a muskrat with a drinking problem, and an over protective interdimensional athena-like goddess born in the fusion of two lesbians? 

currently takumi started tossing boxes around, and unfortunately they hadn’t question where they were all that much. EDEN was large… they could be stuck somewhere in japan… they very well couldn’t start their new job without their partners.

So far, Light is learning people’s names fairly quickly, but he has yet to figure out who is actually human. Even some of the so-called humans have possession of otherworldly abilities, and that makes it somewhat tricky. Light is curious to know if Death Note would work on any of these superhumans and other creatures, but he’ll have  to save experimenting for a more appropriate time.  For now, one of his goals  is to get to know  his fellow residents. It’s advantageous for him to have a good reputation, and now starts the tedious task of socializing. 

“Mukuro-kun, was it? I don’t think I properly introduced myself before…My name is Light Yagami. You’ve been here for quite a while, haven’t you? If you have the time, I was wondering if you could help me learn a little bit more about this place.” 

In this land of make-believe, it was difficult to stay off guard, unknowing of the other beings that reside without a thought of being restrained. Then again.. every living being on this continent(?), islands, were chained down by the powerful forces of the rulers who created each unique spot.

Then again, none of that mattered in a place that cannot last forever. This was why Mukuro didn’t care whether or not someone knew him, or created a reputation.

“Light Yagami..” takes a liar to know another. That fakely kind expression on Light’s face, at least better than his ugly one. This being, Light like a person with a high-key experience, so he decided to play by it, smiling back at him. “You could say that.” He went on with a rather humourous comment.

“Would you be surprised if I said this island.. these islands were run by goats?”

That certainly was a lot more information than Light could have hoped for. He had the assumption that everyone here came from different points in time and space–even the current date here is inconsistent with Light’s own timeline. Jarring as it is to be brought to a crossroads, Light can’t be too rattled by it. He knows of the Shinigami, and their realm, after all.  Light remains unperturbed, smiling politely–a practiced persona of being friendly and unassuming. 

“The deities…you mean the goat gods, right?” Light feels so silly–almost embarrassed referring to animals as gods. When in Rome…  “My name is Light Yagami, by the way. Light is fine.” He has to assume that the person is entirely foreign to Japanese formalities as well, so a generic introduction will suffice. “Have you been here for very long?” 

    『 El. It is nice to make your  acquaintance, Light. 』

Their introduction is brief enough - although they wonder slightly if Yagami is Kantonese, like their name sounds - before diving into the metaphorical meat and potatoes of the conversation.

    『 No; I’ve only been a few days here, but yes, I am referring to the….are they         called goats? I have seen similar beasts in my world, but nothing exactly         identical to those…..creatures.』

El actually isn’t that surprised at how caprine the gods on this island appear; after all, in their world, the One Creator looked similar. What’s more intriguing is the fact that Light seems to have come from a world where Arceus, or equivalents thereof, weren’t the formes that the world’s God took. After all, if one were to be familiar with gods that took the form of goats, they would not be ‘goat gods’- simply ‘gods’ in general.

This is an interesting question to receive, unprovoked--and anonymously. Light knows for certain that he has revealed no information about himself besides his name, occupation, and country of origin. It’s not possible for anyone to know of the existence of the Death Note. 

However, this is a strange new world, where its inhabitants have access to remarkable abilities. Mind reading is something Light is aware of, and something he will have to guard himself from at any cost. 

In regards to the question at hand, Light can say with a guiltless conscience that all blood has been spilled righteously. Justice is on his side. Still, he should be careful in how he proceeds.
