Callista realised who she was speaking to and had to drink some of the wine in front of her. What the woman said wasn’t rude but her tone and intent behind the words was still clear, “Not sure I’ve ever met anyone who didn’t have complaints about their job though,” she said eventually, “There are many other things to be considered when signing up for a career like teaching, heat is not one of them,,” she pointed out bluntly because the woman didn’t know, “Not to mention that suffering is not part of the job description. Not that you care too much about my suffering, right?” she raised an eyebrow at the other.

"Just thought I’d add my two knuts since you were complaining out loud in a public place,” Diana replied, shrugging. If it was someone else, she knew she would had stayed quiet, but when it came to Callista she was simply not able to stop herself. She wasn’t going to be hostile of course, but there was certainly no reason to be nice. “Yes, I’m sure that a bit of heat is truly insufferable. A lot of people are unemployed and have your qualifications, maybe ask them to switch?” She offered, her voice sounding overly sweet. “And I’m sure you know the answer to your question.”

“I knew I was going to upset some of the younger kids by having more seniority when I came here, but it’s not from any lack of experience,” June replied with a roll of her eyes. She hasn’t had this job in a while, but she did her training like everyone else. 

"Hope you know you’ve got nothing to prove,” Diana added, smiling softly at the other. “There’s always someone somewhere who is going to be upset, so it’s a waste of time to try to please everyone. I guess that’s how I always saw it.”

“See, this is the kind of support I need in my life.” Evelyn told the woman with enthusiasm, a laugh leaving her when Diana explained that any care beyond getting the animal home would have to come from her. “You can say you don’t know me? That however seems a little on the harsh side.”

"I’m sure you’d find many who would help you out,” Diana replied, chuckling. It certainly wasn’t a daily occurrence to take part in a horse heist. “Well, maybe, but it’ll be safer. I’m afraid I’m quite easy to crack, especially when there’s an interrogation of some sort.”

June stood there dumbfounded at the other’s remarks as they walked away. “Wait, excuse me, what did you just say to me?” she said, blinking lightly, left speechless. She turned to the other close to her. “Did I just imagine that?”

"I suppose it depends what you were hoping to hear,” Diana slowly said. “Can’t say I’ve paid attention to everything he rambled about, but most of it was very sexist,” she added, shrugging. Diana had learnt to tune out whenever she found herself around such person as most of the time it was pointless to continue the conversation.

“Honestly, whoever decided to put exams in the summe, was stupid,” Callista said, wiping her forehead , “Too stuffy in the hall to take the exams and too hot in the classrooms and offices to mark the exams. I’m not even halfway finished through the first set.”

"That’s pretty much written in the job description, so anyone who decides to take that career path needs to suffer through it. Perhaps you can suggest you’ll mark the exams some place else with better air flow,” Diana muttered, not looking up from the papers in front of her.

“Oh my gosh! I feel like with this adorable darling by my side, I could live all my Princess dreams! You know, like Maui says about if you wear a dress and have an animal sidekick then you’re a Princess?” She’d loved that movie, in part due to the visuals. “Please can we take it with us? It’s only a little thing, no one will notice it’s gone missing.” Evie made her best attempt at doing puppydog eyes at the other.

"As long as I don’t have to do anything afterwards, I’m happy to help you take it to your place. Just don’t expect me to feed it or clean after it,” Diana scrunched her nose at the thought of horse poop. “Oh, I can say I don’t know you if anyone asks who took it, that’s the least I can do,” she offered. 

Cassius: If you want one, all you need to do is ask

Cassius: Excuse you

Cassius: What is wrong with my nose?

Cassius: Have you looked in the mirror recently?

Diana: Ew, just ew

Diana: Don't be gross Cass

“Oh attractive.” Marcus couldn’t help but tease the blonde, laughing at the thought. “Though maybe they’d be more appreciative than you.” He added with a grin. “Remind me to get my phone out to record that if you do decide to go for that look though. Can’t miss out on the possibility to catch something funny. People pay for that kind of stuff.”

"I know, it’ll be a vast improvement in how I usually look,” the blonde joked. At Marcus’ grin, Diana couldn’t help but to grin back. “Sure thing, you’ll be in the first one to know. Just don’t show any of the footage to the kittens, I’d like them to still think I’m their cool aunt.”

“It’s okay, Di. It’s not your job to do that,” Charlie said, not wanting to cause her friend any trouble anyways. Diana had most likely gone out of her way to come see her in the first place and that was already a big deal to her in itself. “I’ll ask the healers when they inevitably come back in to check on me.” She thanked Diana for the water handed to her, drinking from it and only now realizing just how dry her throat had been. “Rough. Sluggish even. But I think the meds are doing their job, my head isn’t hurting as bad as I remember it hurting earlier in the day.”

Diana nodded in agreement. If Charlotte didn’t want her to make inquiries then she was going to stay put. It wouldn’t be a bother though, asking a couple of questions wouldn’t take her long. Although she did have a feeling it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack since there were so many injured. “I’m glad they gave you something that helps, hopefully they’re going to fix you in no time,” she smiled briefly. “I’m sure your family has got you covered, but if you’re in need of company or magazines or something, I’m happy to stop by.”

“We got in here together. She… she needed help and I–” she furrowed her brows, seeming to come to an end of the film strip in her mind in regards to those events. “I hope she’s okay. She had to have made it,” Charlie said firmly, not wanting to believe any other outcome was possible. “Water… water might be nice,” she then replied, looking to Diana as though she was finally seeing her for the first time in her hospital room. “Thank you for coming to see me, Diana. You didn’t have to do that.”

“I’m sorry, I only asked to see you when I came by and found out you’re here,” Diana explained. “Maybe I could go in a minute and try to find out if anyone knows anything? Or ask someone to stop by and you could ask them?” She offered. She didn’t want Charlotte to excessively worry on the top of everything. At the mention of water, Diana nodded her head and arranged a glass for her. “Of course I had to, don’t be silly. How are you feeling though?”

Diana: I'm glad I was wrong

Everything ached. It felt like Charlie had been run over by a truck, every single fibre of her being burning uncomfortably. Unfortunately, it wasn’t too unfamiliar of a feeling. A lot of the time she suffered from chronic pain and was generally weaker because of her illness. This just felt like somebody had turned the dial up to a thousand. 

“There was a girl with me,” the memory struck her all of a sudden. She couldn’t remember how she’d gotten into this very hospital bed, but she could remember helping a woman who kept falling in and out of consciousness. Charlie’s adrenaline levels had given her the strength to somehow guide herself and the woman out of the rubble and to the nearest healers, despite their injuries. “Is she okay? I don’t remember if we exchanged names. Where is she?” she asked, clearly pushing through her own pain as she tried to piece the past events together.

Diana was startled when she suddenly heard Charlotte’s voice. She wasn’t expecting her to wake up so soon, but was relieved nonetheless. “I’m sorry, I don’t know anything about her,” she replied as she stood up. Diana hadn’t thought to ask anyone about the other person, too concerned about her friend. “Can I get you anything? Water?” She offered.

“I mean, I don’t think it’s unusual to have allergies Di, but yes, there are ways to control them.” He agreed but then he’d never been struck down so much by them like some people he’d encountered and he certainly would have pulled a face too if others had not covered their mouth and sneezed on him. “So is this you saying you don’t want to attend everything?” He asked with an amused expression on his face.

"I’m sort of thinking of putting a bag or something over my head so that no one else can sneeze at me,” Diana replied, pouting. “You’ll have to walk with me everywhere though and be my eyes. You know that without you I’ll walk into the closest lamp and that’ll just be it.”

“Hey,” Auggie said, looking around, “Sorry, I was looking for the bouquet making booth. Is this it?” she asked, “I mean, there are lots of flowers but those are everywhere, I have no idea.”

"Sure thing, have a seat,” Diana replied, smiling softly at the other. “The person who is running this thing is not here yet, but I’m hoping this is still the right place, at least all the signs pointed to this booth so fingers crossed,” she added, chuckling quietly.
