" the words come out in a murmur, paired with playful fingers tapping up and down sergio's chest. benji peers at him, blue eyes unsettlingly big, grin lazy and slow as it spreads across his face. " but i'm not all that good an actor," he shrugs, eyebrows shooting up in a wordless gesture of think what you wanna think, baby. sympathy etches into benji's expression as he goes on and those tapping fingers turn into a more gentle caress up and down his arm, his lip jutting out. " our parents can expect all day, but what you expect out of yourself matters a hell of a lot more, don't you think? what do you wanna do? forget politics. " he speaks like he empathizes, but he doesn't. jonas doesn't expect a thing from benji — which comes with it's own... unique set of challenges ( feeling useless ). benji's looking into his eyes in anticipation for his answer, still caressing his arm, interested to hear what sergio's dreams really are — if he's even allowed himself to have them. he presses a kiss to his mouth, quick but gentle, and lowers his voice. he parts just enough that the words aren't muffled. " uh-uh. i know i'm special. "

he rubs his palm against the back of his head, trying his best to overcome the migraine that was already starting to sprout. he really didn’t need this right now, he didn’t need his shit ransacked and his money stolen right from under his nose. this wasn’t something that he deserved. he needed that money, and he knew if he didn’t get it back he’d be in even bigger trouble. “ yeah… sure, start from the beginning. “ he nods, curling his fingers around the edge of the counter, keeping himself steady. “ where were you last night? “ 

the subject of money going missing is a sensitive one for regan. for as long as he could remember, he was hiding cash from his addict parents, to survive — to keep the kids alive. so, he's quick to point fingers, but it being pointed back wasn't something he expected. the confusion is enough for him to be willing to slow down, to take this part piece by piece. he sits and pulls anxiously at his jeans, jaw clenched and eyes up on the ceiling. " at home, with my siblings. littlest one's sick, so i was wiping her nose all night. " his voice is raw when he speaks. they haven't... discussed his home situation, yet. he tries not to until he's serious about someone. " i raise my three youngest. i rushed over today because i forgot my wallet, last time i was here. some bills are due. i had the cash ready in it. how much are you missing? i guess someone robbed you and thought my wallet was more of your stuff. "

" the questions come out and her arms are crossing her chest, head is tipping back so her chin is tilted up at him, and grin is widening — despite everything, the mischief in her is as palpable as ever. worrying her bottom lip with her teeth, she looks at him for a long, quiet moment. to say auggie's unconvinced is an understatement, but he isn't one to argue against someone determined of their point — if she says she's alright, he'll just have to accept that, albeit with a grain-of-salt mentality. he can't ignore the way her eyes search the dark, flickering wildly around while his eyes try to keep up, but he sees nothing too. maintaining his calm, he remains to appear concerned, but he looks to where she points, raises his brow, and gives a reassuring nod. "nah, s'bout where i'm headed. i'll take you there. we'll have to look around online for a motel 'cause i don't know off the top of my head... but i believe in us." with that, he starts the engine and starts their pretty-far journey, his eyes on the road but his mind lingering in wonder: what had she been looking over her shoulder for? should he ask? it doesn't really occur to him 'til this moment that he could be stepping into a world of hurt if she's got people after her. still, he doesn't regret stopping, even if that's the case... but not knowing can't be considered smart by any metric. he decides to work up to it with questions. " i'm auggie. what's your name? "

kyungsoo  knows  that  they  are  better  off  broken  up,  but  still  he  has  come  to  them  against  his  better  reason.  his  brows  knit  together  in  a  frown,  he  lets  out  a  sigh  before  tipping  their  chin,  tilting  their  head  to  look  in  his  direction.  “you  sent  so  many  drunk  texts…  i  had  to  come  over  and  make  sure  you  were  okay.”

his chin lifts with ease, guided by kyungsoo with no resistance, weary eyes glazed over and aching behind the blue as he stares back up at him. benji's texts had been mostly nonsensical, stream of consciousness thoughts, but they came from a place of loneliness — shameful, no doubt, but he's grateful he came. as grateful as he is guilty, feeling as though he doesn't deserve to be checked on like this. it doesn't stop him from leaning his cheek into that hand, savoring the moment of intimacy while he has it. "... you're kinder than most," benji murmurs, and what he really means is kinder than you should be. there's an awkward clearing of his throat after, and in a moment of clarity, he winces. " you didn't have to come, though. i'm okay. you can go. i'm sure you're busy. i'm fine, really. " who he's convincing is hard to discern.
