Kara did the right thing at the end of the movie. I recognize it’s different than the comic but the movie is also different and it works here because it’s made to and it worked for me.

And her talking Ruthye down and getting her to walk away so she doesn’t see what she is going to do is such an act of kindness. Is it hypocritical? Yes but it is still the right thing to do. Ruthye is 13 years old and should not have to lose whatever is left of her innocense.

A big point in the movie is Kara turning 23. She is an adult now and she is taking on the role of excutioner. Is it extreme and dark? Yes but for a man like Krem there is no tolerating his crimes. Imo he is better off dead and no Ruthye should not be the one to do it.

Kara took that responsibility on so that Ruthye wouldn’t have to and that is big sister energy right there and I love it. The right thing can sometimes be a very strong action.

I won’t spoil just yet but I will say all haters of this movie are dead fucking wrong. Both me and @jedimasterbailey were both deeply touched by the intense and moving story Supergirl.

I have read the comic and my wife has not. Yet both of us enjoyed it equally regardless of being comic savvy or not. As the comic reader, I recognize the differences and similarities to the comic and respect the choices made in the movie.

Bailey was even crying at one point. Dare I say this movie got to us more than Superman but only because it touched on what it’s like being a trauma survivor (This not make Superman any less good, it’s still amazing).

The message is so beautiful and Kara has a vulnerability to her that women are not often allowed to have in comic books movies. Milly Alcock is the perfect casting of the role and embodies Kara with such nuance and passion.

I will also add that I was afraid based off annoying male centered merch that Lobo would be obnoxious and take up too much time but he was actually not at all a disruption to the story and we even found him entertaining and funny and fit the role of “wild card” perfectly that he is. The movie is still very much Kara’s movie and he does not take away from that at all.

The Superman bits are short and he does not steal Kara’s spotlight either fyi. I really love their relationship. They may be cousins but they give sibling vibes sometimes with how she views him as the goody two shoes nerd (which he is and i love him for it). They still love each other and like any family, have some friction as seen in the trailers.

Krypto is adorable as ever and serves as the motivation for Kara’s endeavor. This is not a spoiler as it is stated in trailers and interviews but him not just being her dog but the only thing she has left of Argo City is such a good choice and tugs on all the right emotional strings.

Ruthye is the perfect foil to Kara’s more rugged and jaded personality. Both are angry and grieving yet are at different stages of grief with Kara at the more advanced stage and having to guide this 13 year old girl hell bent on revenge yet too young to understand how to navigate the galaxy while herself not having figured out her own grief.

The soundtrack is gorgeous and hits at the perfect moments. I loved the song choices for what I guess are called “needle drops”. The action and effects are really well done.

I adored the flight scenes because the effect felt very old school and look a lot like the Reeve movies flight scenes which are not dated for the most part.

Sidenote, I do not understand why every comic inspired space movie is compared to Guardians. Ive seen that movie too and other than some minor visuals like headphone and jacket she wears, they really are not similar stories at all.

Like I think this works in English too but I was raised with Brazilian Portuguese. Since it’s two women you can describe the relationship itself as lesbian even when the woman(women) involved arent I thought? I explain the gender plural as a comparison in the reply and I think the logic tracks.

Edit: To add one more point of being able to use lesbian in the descriptive, Carmilla Carmine herself says

“i dont have time for this lesbian drama”

Anyone else notice how the Interview with the Vampire soundtrack, “Vicious,” where Lestat and Louis fight sounds kinda like “The Immolation Scene” from Revenge of the Sith?

Just the way the violins in both cry is so similar and all the scenes that have these tracks and dripping with tragedy.

Particularly because both are about the almost death of a man who was so beloved by his family but led astray by his own insecurities and fears and forced that family to choose to attempt to kill him leaving everybody traumatized forever.
