Project 2 - Stem and Leaf Plot
The goal of this project was to create an info sheet on how to make a Stem and Leaf Plot without using many words. This design was centered around a color palette that would not overwhelm the viewer and would resemble the natural parallel to a the leaf structure this graph is based on. Simplicity was the biggest goal for me in this project. To create a graphic that could be read quickly without much confusion. Would Tufte be proud?

The main focus on this map was to make something that was aesthetically pleasing and informative. With the available information, the trails were combined and labeled. This was my first crack at making cartographic products that focused on the presentation of the information rather than the calculation of information. I have room to improve - vastly - but for my first attempt, I felt pretty good about the outcomes.

A lot of the change in this map had to do with just displaying the pertinent information. The map produced by FEMA was supposed to be a map for the bicycle route, but it included the blueways and greenways that were close-by.

The issue with this map was the lack of homogeneity in the map. It really isn't fun to make a boring map and so we just used photography to give the map a more interesting aesthetic. Bump Mapping would probably be a useful tool for me to learn.

For an individual study project Senior year at Mississippi State University.
This project focused on locations of "community services" and the time it takes to walk to these locations based on the road network. These locations included food banks, free clinics, cold weather shelters, hurricane shelters, and homeless shelters. Each location was mapped for three of the six coastal counties using local listings accrued from news stories and websites. Walk times were calculated using Marchetti's constant of 5 km/hr. These are the results.
