Draco screeched as a wave of displaced water fell from the sky, drenching him from head to toe. He spun, already fuming as Harry climbed out of the lake, unable to contain his laughter. βSorry, Iβm sorry,β Harry gasped through his giggles, flicking his wand toward the Eighth-year tower. βI didnβt know you were so close!β Draco glared through sopping hair, his angry heaving overtaking the soft plop as heavy drops added to the puddle beneath him. His jaw was clenched tightly, his fists balled at his sides, and Harry swallowed nervously as Ron and Hermione approached. βNice one, Har!β Ron said, clapping Harry on the shoulder. βGuess it doesnβt matter that you didnβt want to go in, eh Draco?β Draco shifted his glower to the redhead, momentarily uncaring that theyβd reached a truce months ago. His eye twitched as the desire to curse him and his entire bloodline built in his chest. The appearance of a deep green towel zipping through the air toward them was the only thing to save the whole of the Weasley clan from his wrath. Harry caught the linen easily, shaking out the folds and spreading it wide, and Draco finally found his voice. βWhat in Merlinβs name do you think youβre doing?β Harry frowned and lowered the towel so he could see Dracoβs face. βWhat? Iβm helping you dry off.β Draco growled softly. βThat towel is for display only!β Ron snorted. βThatβs the most ridiculous thing Iβve ever heard.β βHow was I supposed to know that?β Harry argued. βWeβve been roommates for nearly a year!β Draco huffed, βHave you ever seen me use that towel?β Harry rolled his eyes. βItβs just a towel!β Dracoβs glare returned, but Harry stood firm. βNow let me help you dry off, youβre starting to shiver.β Draco shook his head, flinging droplets of water into the air. How could he explain that he was shaking not from the chill, but from fury? How could he make the people who had somehow burrowed beneath his emotional defenses see things from his point of view? After everything heβd done to them, Harry and his friends had still rallied around him when he lost his parents, and now this rag-tag group was his only family. He couldnβt possibly push them away over something so trivial, could he? Harry stretched the towel wide and stepped forward, unexpectedly wrapping Draco not only in the cloth, but in his arms, and Draco froze. Harry hugged Draco against his chest, gliding the towel over Dracoβs shoulders and arms in an attempt to warm him with both friction and body heat, then pulled the towel over Dracoβs head to dry his hair. Draco squawked as Harry mussed his locks, stepping out from beneath the linen to reveal still slightly damp tresses now sticking out in all directions. Ron burst into laughter again at the sight, and Hermione elbowed him in the stomach while Harry grinned sheepishly. βWeβre at Hogwarts, Harry, where thereβs magic," Draco said calmly, shoving his hand into his sodden robes pocket. Harry flushed as Draco flicked his wand a few times, perfectly drying himself and his clothing. He rubbed the back of his neck, glancing down where a puddle used to be. βYeah, erm, sorry. I forgot.β βYou summoned the towel, you nob,β Draco said with an exasperated huff. βHow could you forget?β Harry shrugged and turned back toward the lake. βDunno, I just did.β He walked toward the edge of the water, then looked over his shoulder. βAre you going to join us now?β Draco frowned and crossed his arms over his chest. βIβm content to watch, just like I said an hour ago.β Harry laughed and bent his knees, turning again toward the basin. βSuit yourself, but you might want to back up a few paces.β Draco opened his mouth to argue that he was perfectly fine where he was when Harry flew into the air with the aid of Ronβs magic. He watched in slow motion as Harry wrapped his arms around his knees, his eyes widening as a swell of disturbed liquid shot toward the sky when Harry broke the calm surface. Only the towel he still clutched, raised instinctively as the water headed straight for him, kept him from being completely doused a second time.
