Math is like a modern, prestige format TV series full of story arcs and ongoing plotlines; each episode builds upon the one before it, to the extent that if you just put on a random episode, the odds are good that you will have only the faintest idea of what the fuck is going on. You cannot, for example, just plunk yourself down to learn about trigonometry. You need to learn about geometry, algebra, arithmetic, and even, ultimately basic counting before you understand the plot. And if you have not been paying attention, or if you have had poor teachers in the past, you may find it (temporarily) incomprehensible and be put off of the subject, but it’s important to remember that, fundamentally, it’s not anymore difficult than any other subject. It’s just that sometimes, you may need to review previous plot points in order to understand what’s going on.

You deserve to live your life regardless of money. You deserve to live your life whether you “contribute” or not. You should be able to live with no strings attached.

I have this constant need to remind myself it’s okay to have days where I crawl out of bed after the suns up, and it’s okay to have days where I spend 2 hours watching the birds, squirrels, & chipmunks with my best friend, it’s okay not to be doing all the time. I have this tendency to follow the all or nothing path; and forget balance. • Balance, balance, balance…. • I go between extreme routine to none because I forget that it’s a balance. It’s having go and stop. Time for sleeping in, time for waking up. Time for slowing down and speeding up. Time to use less and be more sustainable but to also realize I don’t have to disappear. • What a beautiful life, that we get the chance to learn to be better people everyday; and if you have the chance to take up space, be thankful. It’s a privilege we all deserve. • Show up for you. • Balance. Balance. Balance…

In “Memories of Paintings,” Thomas Blanchard gives us an up-close view of fluids and mixing. It’s a calming and curious video made from combinations of paint, oil, oat milk, and soap. The fluids feather and intertwine, driven by differences in surface tension. Paint gets encapsulated by immiscible oil to create little islands of color that float and dance against the background.
