Modern Sisyphus clicks on a job application. It asks for his resume, or offers to generate one. He uploads his resume. PDF. A neon progress bar appears.
“Your resume will not be seen by a human! Improve ATS score with AI?”
The only button says “YES!”
They let him choose his template. How magnanimous. They’ve somehow managed to make them all more soulless than a white page decorated with arial 11 pt. font.
It re-does his resume. Entire sections have evaporated. He adds them back in after twenty minutes searching for the microscopic “edit” button.
“Your ATS score is too low to qualify,” it informs him cheerfully, “rewrite with AI to improve the chances of your resume being seen by a human?”
It’s 2 AM. It was 8:30 five minutes ago. He clicks the mockingly cheerful neon button: “YES!”
It’s a loading screen:
“Re-structuring your resume!!!! Writing your cover letter!!!”
The loading screen stops. His resume (what remained of it,) is completely unchanged. Mercifully, there is no cover letter.
