“This is the best nose in all of Faerûn,” she informed him. “Did you know that?”
He pressed his lips together. “I… did not,” he said slowly, the corner of his mouth quirking up despite his best efforts. “You may continue to enlighten me, if you have had other such revelations.”
“Oh, I have,” she assured him, entirely serious.
She climbed over him, settling with a knee on either side of his ribs, bracing one hand beside his head to steady herself as she leaned down. Her other hand came up to cradle his face, thumb brushing lightly over his cheek. Cool. Familiar.
She ran a finger from the edge of his nose to the corner of his mouth. “Here,” she murmured, “the most adorable little lines lie hidden.” She leaned in and kissed him there. “They come out when you smile.”
She moved slightly to place another kiss on his forehead. “Your eyebrows have more personality than most people’s faces.” Her thumb followed an arch, smoothing just beneath it. “This one likes to lift higher than the other.” She pressed a kiss there, too. “They’re not subtle at all.”
He made a small, affronted noise. Yet his hands settled at her waist.
“You have magic eyes,” she said, looking into them. “Sometimes they’re bright, like glass in the light. And sometimes…” She leaned closer. “Sometimes they’re dark, like wine.” Her thumb brushed beneath one eye, and she softly kissed the outer corner.
“And your hair,” she went on, slipping her fingers into it. “Do you know how soft it is?”
“I have an inkling,” he murmured.
“And do you know the light sometimes makes a halo of it?” She drew her whole hand through the curls, making a mess of them. “Do you know, in the mornings, when it’s wild, it looks like clouds caught in the wind?”
She let her wandering hand drift down the side of his head, finding an ear. “Oh, your beautiful ears,” she whispered, brushing a finger along the top edge.
He shivered beneath her, breath catching slightly.
“They are so straight and sharp,” she breathed, leaning over to kiss the pointed tip. “Like spearheads. Dangerous and eleg –”
Astarion moved before she finished the word.
He surged up, one hand catching her at the waist as the other took hold of her wrist. The sudden shift knocked her off balance, and she let out a small breath as he pushed her back, guiding her down into the mattress in one smooth motion.
In an instant he was over her, braced on either side, pinning her there with a certainty that stole all her words away. His eyes were bright rubies, fixed on hers. He leaned closer, slowly now, until his lips brushed hers.
“You have no idea what you’re doing to me,” he whispered against her mouth.
She smiled. “Well, I have some –”
