The Seven Deadly Sins

This post is gonna be long, so as a tl;dr: All of the sides, including and especially Patton, are flawed and have a balance of flaws and positive traits, and people are allowed to bring up these faults without “hating” the character. And people are allowed to be uncomfortable with any character, but we don’t need to have separate trigger tags when character tags exist.

Okay, starting this off, I’m going to list all of the things that I personally can’t control that a few select people in the fandom would blast me for:

I relate to both Deceit and Remus and I think they aren’t really “evil” and honestly aren’t even as manipulative as people make them out to be

I’m wildly uncomfortable with Patton, to the point that I block his character tags and avoid him a lot

I believe that sympathetic tags for Deceit and Remus are bullshit because they’re not abusive or anything like that

I think we should tag unsympathetic interpretations of all characters in the series

I don’t like the woobified uwu soft babey boi Virgil. He’s a fully grown adult who’s mean as shit in the actual series and I love that.

That’s all I can think of right now, and personally I don’t think these opinions should mean that much. But to people in the fandom, this stuff (particularly me being uncomfortable with and triggered by Patton) is absolutely appalling and unrealistic to be open to.

Let me now explain to you why I think there’s a double standard not only for people in the fandom, but the characters too.

All of the characters in this series are flawed, and the best way I can think to explain it is the Yerkes Dodson Curve:

-Too much anxiety would make Thomas paranoid to the point of being delusional, while too little anxiety makes him uncaring and completely unhinged

-Too much creativity (this goes for both Roman and Remus) would make Thomas overworked and constantly drowning in his own ideas, while too little would leave him damn near empty

-Too much logic would make Thomas’ life boring and repetitive, while too little would make him wreckless and stupid

-Too much of deceit would make Thomas a manipulative impulsive liar (much like how people interpret Deceit to be, no matter how inaccurate), while too little of him would leave Thomas with no filter whatsoever (much like Remus)

-Too much morality would make Thomas entirely too selfless to actually feel like a complete person (think Steven Universe, how Steven always thinks he has to help people to be worth something), while too little would make him a shitty friend altogether

Thomas, as of now in the series, is in the area of having too much morality. We know for a fact that Patton is too strict, and that he will do anything to prove that Thomas holds his morals above all else, when he really shouldn’t. Saying this isn’t “Patton hate” or “Patton negativity” because I’m simply pointing out the analysis of Thomas’ problems in the series canon. As much as I’m uncomfortable with Patton, I am not saying I hate him. If someone says they’re uncomfortable with Remus, it’s not assumed that they hate him, it’s just assumed that he makes them uncomfortable. This shouldn’t be any fucking different for other characters, I don’t give a fuck if “”more people”” are uncomfortable with Deceit and Remus than Patton, that doesn’t make me any less valid.

The fact that I have to explain this, and the fact that it has taken so long for me to be able to admit all this on my main blog, is fucking bullshit. It shouldn’t take this much effort for an equal amount of respect to be demonstrated in the fandom.

Let me be clear: I’m not saying I want new trigger tags for all of the characters. Trigger tags for Deceit and Remus make me uncomfortable, I wouldn’t push that on anyone else. We have character tags that are blockable. Use them. I’m okay just blocking the character tag for Patton. I’m saying that having trigger tags for characters (and ships, I’m also triggered by prinxiety but I don’t ask people to put trigger warnings added on to the ship tag) is ridiculous and makes people who like those characters/ships feel like they’re bad people for that.

To have emotions rattling around in your chest, taking root in your chest, and winding around your ribs like climbing roses.  It must be so terrible, so scary sub-optimal to feel.

Summary: Everything was running smoothly.

 There was no stalling in Thomas’ own creative thoughts, no hesitations when it came to the knowledge that he needed to absorb for his newer video that he was working on, his anxiety was at a manageable level, and… he for all intents and purposes… he seemed happy. 

Considering all of that, nothing seemed to be wrong. Everything was running smoothly, and there was no reason whatsoever to panic or kick up a fuss about anything. 

And yet…

Sum: Logan kind of falling in love with Remus. Based off this post by @thatautomaticchild . also bonus platonic Logince aayy, and blink and you’ll miss it Roceit.

If it had started any softer, there’s a chance Logan would not have heard it. It’s a knocking at his door, oddly gentle, but frantic little taps over and over and not ceasing until he’s standing from his desk chair. He opens the door plainly, the knocking trailing off as it has no where to go, and then Remus is standing in front of him.

“Can I help you?” He asks not unkindly, or at least he doesn’t think he does, but Remus winces in a way that’s almost concerning. It’s covered by a cackle and a full body wiggle.

“I’m trying to make a replica of someone’s home in the Imagination, complete the with ghosts of the killer who murdered their entire family and accurate blood splatters on the walls.” Remus’s smile is wide and manic, as he finishes something twists on his face. It’s still the same smile, but now it look like it’s being pulled by strings and strained.

“No one else will listen to me,” he says then, still bold and loud. His voice cracks though and Logan does too. He knows that feeling a little too well and quite honestly he’s very not fond of it. Without a word he steps back from his door allowing Remus to enter his room.

Remus dives into the room, desperate it seems, and actually dives head first. Logan would be worried but Remus jumps off the roof because, and he quotes “why not?”. So Remus throwing himself at the floor isn’t uncommon. Besides, once the door is closed, he finds Remus sitting on his own summoned beanbag. It squelches when he moves, and Remus moves a lot, wiggling almost uncontrollably. Logan decides not to ask what’s inside.

“So I need to know what kind of person the killer was because each room will have a stage of their life ghostly moaning about how life sucks.” Remus says and summons a tattered pack of papers, yellowing and stained and mildly chewed on. Logan takes a seat at his desk chair, sitting side ways to access his slim computer and begins typing out the questions Remus has, as well as pulling up his own document to catalog the info he learns as well.

“Well..” Logan starts and pauses immediately as he sees Remus staring at him, burnt feather pen at the ready on his papers. His eyes are wide and ready to pop out of his sockets and his body is vibrating with anticipation. Logan clears his throat and begins talking. He’s not used to such avid attention.

Remus is an eager pupil. He takes notes and notes as Logan talks, asking his own questions for certain clarifications. They nearly get into a debate about blood splatters when Logan neatly swivels in his chair and shows Remus his computer, images of blood on the screen in an array of dingy red marks in all directions. He holds it there as Remus sketches out the patterns he wants. Remus may still end up embellishing the amount of blood, but, a little accuracy never hurt any one.

Logan loses track of time as they talk, plainly going over facts and most likely scenarios. They are both so lost in the moment that when Patton knocks on the door letting Logan know that he made dinner, they both jump at the sound. Logan sighs and closes his laptop.

“Thanks for you help dorkalicious,” Remus says, he winks terribly and sinks out. Logan is left staring at where Remus was for a minute, collecting his own thoughts. He feels, a little happy about the interaction. Somewhat satisfied about the occurrence and the knowledge he got to share. He joins the others for food with a small smile on his face.

So… Pretty random idea that popped in my head and I thought it would be funny to see them swap places. Logan in Remus’ body would probably get rid of any unnecessary parts of the original outfit and actually button-up the heckin top, Re in Logan’s body would instantly destroy the neat and simple outfit I suppose.
