For Honor Open Beta Coming Soon
We are only hours away from the open beta for Ubisoft’s ‘For Honor’. I was lucky enough to be allowed to participate in the Closed Alpha and Beta. I have to say that it was one of the most refreshing games I have played in some time. To all that may be curious if this is a game to give a try I will try and explain exactly why you should invest a minimum of 4 hours to really see if its a fit for your style of gaming.
I probably have around 32 hours already invested into the game in the early testing phases. With this amount of time put into the game I have formed a relatively good understanding of the mechanics, strategies, and overall features. If you are thinking that this is a button smashing/spamming style game I have to correct you right now. There is rarely a moment in game that spamming a button will achieve any type of benefit. This is true for 4v4, 2v2, and especially 1v1, it takes patients and calculated attacks from all directions.
2v2 is what I find to be the most enjoyable. The intense pressure to make quick work of your opponent, but to not rush in and get destroyed and leave your partner hanging alone in a 2v1 is just astonishingly satisfying. While the 1v1 is a great proving grounds and even a place to hone your characters style of combat.
In the closed Alpha and Beta there were a total of 9 different characters to choose from with all of them having different styles of combat. With these different styles came different perks, attack strengths and defensive weaknesses. Each character is earned by “Recruiting” the character thought the character selection menu which cost 500 of the in-game currency. You should be able to gain that amount in a few of the 4v4 battle modes.
On top of the character selection options you also select a faction. You do have the option to change this later one in game but you will be penalized in rewards for that season. There are 3 factions, the Samurai, Vikings, and Knights. These 3 factions battle of a world map for territories. During the closed Beta the Vikings were a force to be reckoned with. While the Knights struggled not to get overwhelmed the entire time.(I was part of the Knights faction)
I believe Ubisoft has really hit it out the part with this title. While my normal style of gaming is First Person Shooters, with my favorites being the Battlefield Series, Halo Series, and Titanfall 1 & 2, this was a refreshing title to play. If you feel as if you are in the mood for something new and refreshing to play. I suggest you give For Honor a try. I doubt you will be disappointed.
