Door handles “on rose” are types where the lever is attached to a circular base plate disc (or “rose”), whilst door handles on backplate are attached to larger base plates (usually rectangular or similar in shape). This latter variety of internal door handles itself has sub-types to meet the requirements of your specific situation: lock handles (i.e. with a keyhole in the backplate), latch door handles (i.e. with a blank backplate), euro door handles (i.e. with a keyhole wider at the top than standard lock profile handles), oval door handles (where the keyhole is oval in shape), and bathroom door handles (with a thumbturn present to allow locking for privacy).
