so don't get me wrong. i'm on canto 4. and i am not all the way there yet to truly say that i fully understand the lcb sinners, much less the two i'm going to talk about, but i really don't like how people are so weird about heathmael overall? and are weirder about ishmael in return. personally i think romantic heathmael is just a boring way to see their relationship, they have so many issues just to have a normal ass label, but that's besides the point. but it drives me up the wall how people are so SO weird about it and not about like. other heathcliff ships
"heathcliff hates ishmael" he doesn't. this is straight up a extremely simplified way to see his relationship with her and doesn't do either of them justice. yes he constantly picks on her and is annoying as shit but he doesn't hate her. they're polar opposites that clash and benefit from being able to kill eachother endlessly, yes, but he doesn't... hate her? same thing with ishmael. genuine hatred from them is fucking scary. the two of them don't feel that for the other. it's more complicated than that
"oh but heathcliff has cathy!!!" people can... ship characters with other characters that are or were in a relationship. i do think it's important to remember how much of an heavy impact cathy had on heathcliff, yes, but that doesn't mean that with GIVEN TIME he can still find love in someone else, while still loving cathy. and i never see anyone saying this about any other heathcliff ships. much less the mlm ones he has. which is really weird to me. like heathmael is probably the one that makes sense the most given they're literally "i found the only person who could truly understand me. unfortunately i hate that guy" post
"ishmael is a lesbian" sapphic absolutely! but sapphic doesn't directly mean lesbian, that's not what sapphic means. and people can have their own headcanons about the characters, given that they don't have any canon identities. this may be shocking to you but sapphics can... also... like men............
and then a good chunk of people that are weird about them don't like ishmael for being "mean" and shit but that's straight up misogyny because oftentimes, guess what, heathcliff is their favorite character. and listen i love heathcliff. but ishmael is the one that has good reasons to be "mean" the most and i'm sick and tired of people treating her like she doesn't. leave her Alone
