I did !! There are several biographies of him that are available on the Internet Archive for free. I couldn't find my personal favourite, but At home with the Marquis de Sade: A Life by Francine du Plessix is great as well.

(My fav biography is titled Sade and since I didn't favourite it, I can't find it. All the results that come up are about that singer 🫩)

But to answer your other question: He wasn't born like that. He is the textbook case of the abused will become the abuser if he does not receive help. Once you know this about him, reading his novels gain a new, sad layer imo

This doesn't not excuse his debauched acts and opinions ofc don't get me worng
