DENA

Years ago, when I first started writing about music on I Heart Moosiq, I came across a Bulgarian artist named DENA, and I became insanely obsessed with her song “Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools”, which I still love to this day. It’s a wonderfully spunky and endearing song that immediately reminded me of early M.I.A. and now in retrospect, also reminds me of MØ. Re-visit the still awesome music video for the track below. DENA, now based out of Berlin, has been MIA (pun intended) from the scene for a very long time, so we were thrilled when we saw that she’d signed a new record deal and released new track Imaginary Friends, on which she goes an extra dance-y route, blending 90s inspired hypnotic house and smooth R&B with her entrancing drawl. You know what would be really cool? If Yaeji and DENA collaborated, or if Yaeji re-mixed Imaginary Friends. Tell me that wouldn’t be a sweet treat.
