" they leaned back against the wall they were near, turning their gaze towards the ceiling like she would suddenly find answers to wylan's past hidden there.
ㅤㅤ " well, you speak kerch like a native, and i haven't found you slipping off to any kaelish circles, so i'm assuming you're from kerch. i can imagine you out from the countryside, playing that little flute of yours as you go from town to town. " she rolled her shoulders. " how close am i? "
"We all love someone with a gift for languages," He smiled. What could that mean? Could it imply he learned Kerch when he was twelve, or not? He'd gotten good at talking in circles, rather than lying. He'd never lied about Tilly, but no one ever noticed when he was honest, either. She cleaned a paw, delicate and quite cat-like, from her perch on a nearby shelf.
He smiled, watching as Jesper turned her eyes playfully towards the ceiling. "Well, you can ask questions all day long, if you like. Doesn't always mean you ask the right ones."
He grabbed a rag and cleaned his hands off somewhat. "It's called busking, and Kaz would catch me doing that here in the Barrel. He never seemed to approve..."
ㅤㅤ THE MENTION OF a time before the barrel caught jesper's attention. she was still shaking the leftover adrenaline off, the peaceful grasp of her brief nap now far, far away. her eyes look a little out of place on her face, as odd as it sounded - rather than the sharp spark of life and promise that they usually held, they just looked exhausted now. still, the conversation was tempting. jesper was sure that kaz knew where wylan was before he popped up in the barrel, but he had to wonder. it was quite the curious thought, especially when he considered how in the world wylan might had gotten into the bang and boom business.
ㅤㅤ " don't say that around kaz; he'll have you doing spying on top of the demolitions. " jesper rubbed at one eye, then blinked at him. " where exactly where you sneaking around before the barrel? "

"Wouldn't you like to know?" Wylan said with a sneaky smile on. Plenty of people had their secrets in the Barrell, and where he came from, well, it was his. The mystery itself was far more threatening than the truth, the lingering unknown left room for people to come up with their own theories far scarier than any lie he could come up with. "You tell me. Where do you think I came from?"
He shrugged. "Kaz finds ways to make me useful without sneaking around."
@demolitionsman -- a gunslinger's priorities
A small token of time, just to relax. . . or well, most people would relax. To the gunslinger of the Crows, it was more time to wander around and possibly poke his nose into some business that would end up with more than bargained for. Hands are shoved into the pockets of his jacket, leaning against one of the tables inside the quiet room. Away from the streets for the moment, curiously watching Wylan move about. "You ever hold a goat?" The question just sort of slips from Jesper, "Like, one of the lil' guys?" He always had been partial to animals growing up, having time to let his rushing mind settle long enough to ponder how Milo was doing.
"Hold a goat? Like a baaaah, goat, with the square pupils," Wylan repeated. It seemed like a wild proposition, off the wall. "What exactly brought that up?"
He tilted his head, giving Jesper a curious stare. "I've been around goats a good bit, but no. I don't think I've ever given onea hug."

ㅤㅤ " GHEZEN AND ANYONE else out there - wylan, of course i wasn't going to - " jesper cuts himself off with a sigh. there's an edge to his voice that isn't typically there, as if he's off-kilter. it seems like even more likely of a chance when he rubs at the bridge of his nose and his eyes like he's tired. then, she slips the gun she'd grabbed back into the drawer she yanked open.
ㅤㅤ " word of advice, hendriks. saying things like that won't get someone to actually stop putting a bullet through you if they feel like it. or if they're woken up rather jarringly from a quick doze and didn't quite wake up on the right side of the bed. you're lucky. " she waves a dismissive hand through the air. " did you have to creep up on me like that? i was unaware our demo man picked up on the sneaking habits so quickly. "
"I've actually had some sneaking habits for a while. Being too loud... that was dangerous even before I landed in the Barrel." Wylan said. His hands were still up somewhat, fingers splayed open by his shoulders in a half surrender. He just needed the gun to be a bit lower.
He smiled with a quiet amount of relief as she did. Wylan didn't expect Jesper not to, or even to actually shoot him, but it was still nice to see it go down. "I didn't think you would! I just... there's no perfect way to be careful, so I just... reacted."

"I've got a gift for you," Inej says. Her friendship with Wylan is still somewhat new, but she wants him to feel like he's part of the group. He should feel included. She wants him to feel included in the same way that the crows have become her family. "Do you have a minute?"
"Oh?" Wylan looked up from his work table. He tugged his goggles off of his head, shaking it out as he did to look at her with clear eyes. "I do. But I haven't got anything for you?"
