why is Res so yellow tho

as i do think it is a color grading issue and flaw that is more of a stylized choice. i think is fun... i love saturation but it fun to point it out and giggle.. the lighting is really good and they have pretty solid contrast throughout but the color yeah its a bit much? -

i can also take it in a way where we look at the color of the world we see dexter in as symbolic! that in new blood the washed contrast and saturations visually show us a narrative that dexters life is bleak! where we can see how yellow could be an intense new view of life. almost seeing the world for the first time and it being intense! -

with the color yellow and symbolism we have this random ass chart i found online

i really do think that in the beginning of resurrection we have all the negative traits at the forefront

Negative -

cowardice - being a coward about harrison and not stepping in until something severe was happening

deception - entire "call me red" arc

egotism - "there's only room for one dark passenger" and him getting upset seeing doakes in the serial killer book taking his credit

caution - Harrison in danger - trying to befriend killers - "dont mix your family and kill life dont bring this darkness into your home" yayaya does it anyways - ANGEL

Symbolism -

happiness - feels full with having harrison in his life

optimism - the whole second chances are for taking in 1x06

positivity - i feel like this one is fueled from harry - with the reassurance that harrison needs him

intellect - dexter is a fucking dumb ass moving on

Effects -

clarifies - he finally feels free and accepts who he is

inspires - inspires harrison to chase a career in law enforcement

amuses - he funnnyyyyy haha sassy man

energizes - the excitement and fueled fun and play and euphoria with killing again!

Positive -

creativity - how he helps harrison with the watch - him with red (also dramatic as fuck he didnt need to do all of that) - the geminis

perception - honestly the first thing that comes to my mind is him waking up ,,, new view of life - a new perception on how harrison actually feels and who he actually is

mentality - again dexter stupid but yaya

warmth - burning da bodiessssss <3 symbolic for killing being the warmth of his life yayayayay -> then the moment he doesnt need to dispose of bodies that way bc the warmth is now harrison he dumps prater in da oceannnnn

Yeah I just think they overdo it sometimes. When it’s subtle it works well but some scenes are just too much. I do like that the different series have different colour palettes (well except OS). NB’s desaturated cool toned colour palette perfectly suits the tone of the series, Dexter’s emotional state and the move from sunny Miami to snowy Iron Lake.

While the colour grading in Res is very yellow the colour palette incorporates a lot of blues and blacks making the overall combination feel less true yellow and more of a dirty greenish yellow. To me it feels almost sickly at times. Which I do think works when it’s subtle but sometimes it’s just too yellow. It’s feels almost amateurish I guess. I suppose it’s a matter of personal taste tho.

#also from a purely selfish very shallow perspective #I just think the cool tones suit Jack Alcott better #it brings out his pretty blue eyes
