Every single time they mention Dexter being a psychopath in the show it is immediately debunked within his actions of what he thinks a psychopath is… despite the writers saying he is one… like Dexter defining psychopathy on the absence of love and then the next episode being shown being full of it

Yeah it's confuses me what their intent is. Res explicitly says that psychopaths can't feel love or empathy then shows Dexter feeling love and empathy??

#my theories are:#a) they're going for primary psychopathy vs secondary psychopathy #with Dex having secondary psychopathy #it's still a pop sci simplification of bullshit crim psych nonsense but it does fit #b) they're hiding the ball in interviews and they are going to reveal he's not actually a psychopath #or #c) he's just a super special psychopath who can feel love and empathy (my least fav option)#I'd love for them to actually deconstruct the concept of psychopathy all together but I ain't holding my breath on that one

#kids who experience trauma sometimes respond to that trauma with violent behaviour #sometimes that violent behaviour is aimed at animals sometimes other children #but that doesn't mean they're all destined to be serial killers #it always makes me think of that little girl who was labeled as a 'psychopathic child'#but if you actually look into her story she was repeatedly sexually abused by her father since infancy #after she was removed from that situation and given help a lot of her 'psychopathic traits' disappeared
