The greatest regret I have is that, early in my career, I showed myself such cruelty for not having accomplished anything significant. I spent so much time trying to write, but was paralyzed by how behind I felt. Many years later I realized that if I had written only a couple of pages a day, I would’ve written 500 pages at the end of a year (and that’s not even working weekends). The first sentence sets the stage—however long or short the text—and hints at the "narrative vehicle" by which the writer will propel the book forward. King continued:
A self-respecting artist must not fold his hands on the pretext that he is not in the mood.
Tchaikovsky
You don’t always have to force yourself to write every day, but you do need to make the time and space to spend with your writing as regularly as you can.
Stephen King talks about his daily writing routine and his thoughts on the future of books.Â

So, in case you haven’t heard, freelancing is on the rise. Nearly 1 in 3 workers, to be exact, and the news is rife with stories of former 9 to 5-ers swapping their power suits for home offices. From writers to CPAs, nearly ever field and every profession is going rogue. But with this new workforce comes an entirely new phenomenon: the renaissance freelancer. You know who I’m talking about. It’s that guy you met at a dinner party who casually explains he writes articles for a handful of magazines, then starts talking about his ceramics. Oh, and the music ...
