As the oldest angel, Ephemera has existed for billions of years.
She was present when the world was first created and watched as the first fish emerged from the ocean, making her over several thousands years old going by Biblical time. A fraction of Ephemera's essence was used in creating humanity, granting humans their individual uniqueness. Ephemera also witnessed Cain killing Abel, and then saw the construction of the Tower of Babel, David killing Goliath, and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, among other historic and Biblical events.
Due to being the closest angel to God, as well as her essence having influenced the creation of humanity, Ephemera was lured and locked into a caged by the archangel Michael for thousands of years, while being allowed watch humanity from afar.
Sometime in winter 2008/2009 Ephemera was freed from her cage when Dean Winchester broke the seal that bound her by performing an angel summing ritual as "a righteous man who was touched by an angel and pulled out of hell".
Eventually Ephemera decided to become the angelic guide and guardian of the Winchester brothers as she quickly formed a bond with Dean due to her being so unlike any other angel he had met.
Ephemera is strong, determined, earnest, compassionate and kind. Before being caged by Michael she used to be trusting to a fault and has always followed her father's orders to the best of her abilities. Although Ephemera sees Michael's action as betrayal she still holds deep love towards her younger brother.
Ephemera still has faith in God. She is dedicated to any cause she pledged herself to, especially when it comes to protecting the Winchester brothers.
Unlike other angels Ephemera expresses emotions easily and unashamedly. She also shows understanding of human behavior such as sarcasm.
Ephemera's true form is composed of bright light that blinds and can even kill humans upon direct eye contact; she also has feathered wings.
Her human body is that of a pale-skinned young woman who is 5'1" with long wavy light blonde hair and wide light grey eyes.
She sports a pair of dark skinny jeans, a white shirt and a black leather jacket she was given by Dean as a gift. She wears a necklace with a delicate gold cross pendant.
Ephemera possesses all the powers of regular angels, including entering human dreams, smiting demons, telekinesis, teleporting and transporting others and herself through time.
Her powers are far stronger than those of her younger siblings.
Even though Ephemera is arguably the oldest and strongest angel and one of the most powerful supernatural beings to exist, there are still certain things that pose a weakness to her and may harm her, including holy fire, angel blades, enochian brass knuckles and the lance of Michael.
While none of those are able to kill her, primordial entities ā such as The Darkness, God, Death, Eve and the Leviathans ā are able to seriously injure and even kill her.

Ephemera isn't afraid of cussing, even openly insulting her younger siblings if she feels angered or hurt.
