This shit has gone too fucking far.
Yes- our society is riddled with ableism but people choosing not to put themselves in a position to be physically or verbally abused repeated is not people being ableist. Just because a person has a disability that may cause them to behave badly doesn’t mean others have to subject themselves to their harmful behavior or they are being “ableist”. There is a limit to being understanding and a person with a disability doesn’t have a free fucking pass to be abusive and still have people want to be around them.
If a person with a disability tells you that they hope you and your entire family die in a fire, it isn’t being ableist to make a conscious effort to avoid that person. It is definitely not ableist to not want to be friends with that person especially if this person is known to be verbally abusive like this often.
If someone with a disability punches you in the face because unbeknowst to you, you were standing in their way and didn’t move fast enough, it isn’t ableist to want nothing to do with that person, especially if they have a history of being violent or aggressive at the slightest annoyance.
You can understand that a person may have a disability that effects how they behavior while still choosing not to be around the person because subjecting yourself to their abuse, unintentional or out of their control as it may be, isn’t healthy for you is not ableist- that is called having healthy fucking boundaries.
Stop calling people fucking ableists for not being willing to subject themselves to fucking abuse.
