While Tenna isn't the only one who can die in Deltarune his death is undoubtedly one of the cruelest, if not the cruelest, we've seen in Deltarune (so far).
Everything leading up to his death and how it happened is SO cruel. We don't know how many years the television sat there, dusty and unused, but one day, suddenly, after years of silence, it's used again!
And then Kris opens the dark fountain, and now he has to distract the fun gang and temporarily kidnap Toriel until the Knight appears. If he doesn't, at best he'll return to that silence, and at worst he'll be thrown away. However, if he accepts the deal, he could win it all, things will go back to the way they were! Besides, it's his favorite viewer asking him to! What does he have to worry about?
At first, the show goes well. Even Susie, sweetheart, thanks him for the show because it cheered her up, and oh, sweet words for his antennas! that's all he wants to hear in the world! But things stall more than expected, the knight doesn't appear, and the show is getting a little old.
A mental breakdown later, everyone abandons him, as always! What everyone always does. Now he has to fight because what else can he do? He's burned all his bridges. Everyone probably hates him now. He loses and simply says he knows he's junk, that he's irrelevant, but that, despite this, he doesn't want to be thrown away. Susie understands.
She knows how he feels too and promises to find him a new home, where he can feel loved and wanted again. And then, for the first time in years, he feels hopeful, he feels he has a future again.
Then he's killed. In the code, the knight is programmed to always inflict more than 5,500 damage (his total HP), but never more than 6,000. This means he doesn't die immediately, as is usually the case in UTDR, but rather dies slowly and agonizingly, in the extreme cold and alone. Susie tells us that they found him barely alive. And the time it took to find him was long: after the attack came the fight against the knight, the chase to the bunker, the return to the dark world, the recruitment of his employees to help in the search, and finally, the entire duration of the search itself. And after all this time, he was still alive.
And in the endings where Tenna dies, the only difference is that the employees from the television world don't want to help Susie look for him. So he stayed there, in the cold, dying slowly and alone, probably thinking that no one was looking for him and that he deserved it.
