Tell me about your headcanons for your specific YMs, I wanna to see what you guys imagine playing as beyond what the game characterizes YM as. Make it a tag game if you want? Idk how those get started, but I think that might be fun.
I’ll start!
Haven‘t found a chinese name to fit into the naming scheme yet, but his means moonlight! (At least if I get one that means the same as my username Fenghari)
The short summary is that he’s a sopping wet kitten with ragebaiting tendencies. Being annoying is one of his hobbies. Gotta stay silly even while stressed and depressed. Probably has chronic anxiety or something, but who has time to look into that
He doesn‘t really get distracted all that much, but he constantly needs a project or else he gets bored and then he just starts doing anything. He needs Enrichment. (He would just endlessly renovate his house, except that I don’t have the bravery to commit to a place to build, so he‘s happily homeless. Might draw it at some point though)
Probably also a bit autistic about wine? It‘s not his fault the production and regional differences are interesting!
Has the pleasure of going through a sexuality/gender crisis while getting traumatized left and right by canon events. Sometimes by the things that give him said crises

I don't have a first name for her yet but she uses the surname taken from aunt Han. Reason being there's a kid in Heaven's pier who calls YM Han jiejie tho he's the only one I've seen so far refer to us as such. Maybe the CN version has more info on it.
YM at first called Uncle Jiang Baba when she first learned to talk, it took a lot of effort for her to call him uncle. Aunt Han did not help and just laughed at him
Younger YM was convinced that Uncle Jiang and Aunt Han were a couple cuz she over heard villagers gossiping.
She has an insanely high alcohol tolerance, Aunt Han had to chase off raging tides disciples looking to recruit her.
My YM has a huge scar on her forehead, she was running away from a goose then tripped on a rock.
She would sometimes ask for a little sibling, both uncle and aunt breathed a sign of relief when Ruby was born and she no longer asked for a sibling.
Even tho Yaoyao and Daodao were her age, she didn't get to spend much time with them cuz they didn't like roaming outside much.
YM though lady ugly was beautiful outside even with her scared face.
She has a lot of patience for most people, not for merchants tho.

My YM remains sectless cuz getting involved in a sect might limit her freedom.
When she returned to Qinghe she stayed in her old house for a bit but the memories were too overwhelming, so she went to stay at the bamboo hut.
I laugh when people make happy nothing hurts fluff aus of orv and everyone is living their best life and doing what they love hsy a writer kdj at some company yet YJH is still a gamer, a job which he absolutely hated, cause fuck this one guy in particular I guess. but also very very typical of YJH to still be stuck in the torment nexus in a world where the apocalypse doesnt happen hes the most torturable guy in the world you can take the angsty edgy protagonist out of the gritty apocalypse but hes still doomed to be defined by the one character trait his god gave him for a backstory. its still his only defining feature even fanfic authors cant save him and concieve of a universe where hes found his own purpose in life. meta
Fenghari (Φεγγάρι): the name I tag him as on Tumblr and also his official username. It‘s a greek word for moon to go with my own go-to username, because a naming theme for me and my sonas is really fun. Fenghari grew out of hand enough that he‘s an OC now, but he‘s still sort of me that way
Jiang Xin (江新): the name Uncle Jiang gave Fenghari after he first rescues him as a baby. As it was a while until he settled in Qinghe and a few more days until Aunt Han agreed to co-parent us, he just gave us his own surname.
Zhou Yu (周雨): the name Fenghari chooses to take on after having to go into hiding from the Aureate Pavilion; Zhou from Ruby, as that was the most he could take with him from her at that moment, and Yu (rain) as inspired by a conversation he has with Lady Ugly after the attack about the burnt pear trees and her flowers regrowing soon.
Behavior and Traits
He was a diligent child, and usually obedient, even if he complained about some things. His only streak of defiance only ever concerned leaving Qinghe to look for Uncle Jiang.
Has been prone to nightmares as an expression of stress since he remembers. As a result, never thrilled about sleep, but it‘s manageable as long as he can curb his overthinking and feels like he‘s somewhat safe. The nightmares resemble the boss fight from the very first cutscene of the game as well as the moment Zhou Yu realizes Ruby fled Sweetwine Tower and the fight with Qianye.
Is incredibly curious about everything, though his brain best remembers anything that has to do with people - except their faces. He is in fact faceblind. It‘s terrible. Has read every text he could get his hands on.
Likes to get into arguments. Usually wins them, sometimes by being more creative with the cussing, sometimes by sheer verbosity, sometimes by being annoying.
Not foul-mouthed, but very foul-minded. A truth serum trope would be the worst thing ever to happen to him.
Still uses the Nameless Sword and Nameless Spear. He doesn‘t really have anything else from Uncle Jiang, so he‘s reluctant to use other weapons, even if he does try to pick up their martial arts just in case.
Eats like a garbage disposal.
Before taking Clip-Clop with him, his horse was a pale brown one he named Sunrise. He also had a cat named Snow Maiden (gifted to him from Aunt Han, who had it from Chu Qingquan) and helped with raising Butter, the village dog from Heaven‘s Pier. Misses them daily. Stops for every cute animal except the ones he intends to eat or kill.
Had to start mothering Ruby a bit after her own mother died and she insisted on spending almost all her time with him. He still gripes with himself if he did a good job and regrets spending more and more time on his own in the years leading up to her death, as he went out more to explore on his own.
There‘s something going on with his gender. Can‘t be bothered to think about that though. He just knows that he‘s jealous of what women get to wear and that he can‘t without getting looks. Hair accessories are pretty, damn it!
Rather sensitive over being patronized, mainly because most of his uncertainty about his situation is from the adults in his childhood keeping secrets and now being gone with a single trace, so if he‘s not trusted with knowledge and not given a reason, he takes it very personally.
After fleeing from Blissful Retreat, he became a bounty hunter, since it was the only thing he could do while travelling. It works pretty well, and he gains a reputation for it in Kaifeng, where he mainly does so. Sometimes when he isn‘t in the mood to travel, he‘ll help out at construction sites or shops or just runs errands for his acquaintances.
He doesn‘t go back to Qinghe for a good while after the attack - pretty much only after finishing his exploration of Kaifeng. When he does, he spends only one night at Blissful Retreat to see how his pets are doing (fantastically) and then visits Ruby‘s and Yi Dao‘s grave and picks up his sword. After that does he start to roam Qinghe and explore properly.
Mostly expresses his affection of whatever kind through being attentive and lovingly bothering you. Doesn‘t forget anything you say, which can suck if he doesn’t let you live it down weeks later. Ride-or-die tendencies, if your stupid idea sounds fun enough
Notable Skills:
Tracking: had to pick up some tricks while bounty hunting.
Socializing/making conversation: part of the skillset he picked up while helping out at Blissful Retreat. Basically Customer Service Mode. Can make himself likable to most people just by not saying the things he thinks and relying on manners and being polite. Only friends get the completely sincere version of him
Assessing goods/haggling/hawking: also from Blissful Retreat, though he usually doesn‘t haggle unless it‘s a well-off merchant. Most of the goods he himself sells are whatever he picks up from game that he won‘t use but others might
Construction: just the basics, but enough to make a temporary shelter in the wild. Uncle Jiang actually taught him, since Zhou Yu couldn‘t be prevented from occasionally staying out and he‘d rather his ward know how to stay safe.
Survival: includes medicine, scouting, hunting, navigation. Not the best, far from the worst. Some of it comes from his independent exploration before Blissful Retreat burnt down, but most was tried, tested and forcefully learnt afterwards.
Playing music: everybody needs a hobby. He just plays on his own and in the company of friends, his skills aren‘t good enough to brag with (yet). Still has the pipa Aunt Han once gifted him.
Notable sect history and thoughts
Well of Heaven: their principles are right up his alley, even if their methods are rather inefficient and brutish. His rants about why throwing around money doesn‘t address the root of the issue are well-known to his closer sect siblings, but he‘s too intimidated by the sect elder to actually suggest a change in their strategy.
Nine Mortal Ways: chaotic and disorganised, but with good intentions. Fond of them, even if he always ends up annoyed and a few hundred coins lighter.
Velvet Shade: wearing their clothes is fun, but having to flirt with everyone seems exhausting. No thank you. They‘re way too good at flustering him…
Midnight Blades: most of them are unfortunately his type. He‘s still mad he couldn‘t get the name of the disciple that plays music by Thousand Buddha Village.
Raging Tides: has a good impression of them due to the number that linger around Heaven‘s Pier that are usually friendly. Finds their alcoholism a questionable thing to make their trademark.
Mohist Hill: would want to join if it weren‘t for their non-aggression rule. Maybe in the future, when his living doesn‘t depend on him catching wanted people. But when he comes across disciples in trouble, he does his best to mediate or free them.
