della shook her head in disbelief, eyes briefly closed and brow furrowed. this whole place was a little ridiculous and if nadia's assumption was right then della figured there needed to be a serious meeting with the park's creative development team to do something – anything – better. ❛ that's exactly what i'm sayin' ! ❜ she gestured pointedly to the mascot, letting her hand fall again to slap lightly against her thigh. ❛ why not just leave it as a horse and call it a day ? it would make perfect sense considerin' where we are.. just so silly ! ❜ she blinked at her friend's attempt to justify the choices that were made, trying to understand the correlation. ❛ trees, moose, roller coasters … sorry to say, lovey, but one of these things is not like the others. ❜ smile growing at the question, della held up her hand to tick her list off on her fingers. ❛ i'd change everythin', i'm so glad you asked ! first of all, it's western themed - simple, easy, familiar. second, murray moose is kaput ! he's freakin' me out ! we can replace him with .. hector the horse or somethin'. third, park overhaul – half these wooden coasters are one termite away from collapse, so we need some remodelin' pronto. i could honestly go on all day if you let me.. ❜
nadia can't help the laugh that escapes at della's passionate breakdown as she glances back toward the unfortunate mascot. “hector the horse? see now that's marketable. i'd buy a little hector plushie. murray, though? murray's got the thousand-yard stare of someone who's seen too many children throw up after the spinning teacups. i don't trust him one bit.” following della's finger-pointed itinerary, nadia nods along as though she's listening to a polished business proposal. “okay, i'm hearin' you. western theme, horse mascot, structural integrity. honestly, you've got a stronger vision than whoever designed this place.” she snorts, nudging della's arm. “though if you keep roasting the park this loudly, i'm pretty sure they're gonna escort us out before we even make it to the rides.” her gaze drifts toward one of the old wooden coasters, watching it rattle violently along the tracks. “okay, actually, you've got a point. why does that thing sound like it's held together by prayers and splinters? i kinda wanna ride it because it looks fun, but i also don't wanna end up on the six o'clock news.” a beat. “ screw it. let’s give it a go. what do you say?”
" obviously he fucking cheated , nads . . . i myself am a dramatic woman but i wouldn't be calling someone a u-haul unless i had concrete proof of being fucked over , " part of her wouldn't question it even if it was an overreaction , always tended to operate under the impression that women were almost always right ⸺ even in the cases where they might be wrong . shift in conversation gives aria a moment to devour the rest of her croissant , listening intently as nadia details the recent events of her life , small flecks of crumbs dusted from the tips of her fingers to fall to her empty plate as she finishes . " babysitting ? like , a child ? " brows furrow as she asks , not that she'd had anything against kids but sometimes found it impossible to understand how someone could survive a day taking care of one without a consecutive series of mental breakdowns ⸺ but money was money , wasn't it ? " honestly , we're pretty much in the same boat except i work all the time because i do it to myself . . . i'm trying to plan a nice vacation for this winter so a lot of the production for the magazine and for my show has been pushed up to the fall ⸺ once september hits i think i'll be lucky if i get out of that office for more than four hours at a time , " knew it would be brutal , but moments like this reminded her how lucky she was to do something she loved . " hey you know . . . you could always come work for the magazine for a bit if you wanted ⸺ not sure how good you are with emails but my assistant is going on vacation for a few weeks so i could use the help . . . plus i pay well and the schedule's flexible if you need to work nights at the bar . no pressure , but it might save you a headache or two . "
a scoff slips past her lips, shaking her head as she absentmindedly tears another piece from her pastry. "yeah, you're probably right. i guess i just hate admitting people can actually be that shitty." shoulders shrug before she waves the thought away. "not my circus though. thank god." a laugh escapes at aria's reaction to the babysitting . "yes, an actual child. two years old. definitely makes bartending drunks feel easier some days." admiration flickering across her face as aria speaks about work. "you're insane, you know that ? i mean in the nicest way possible. i don't think i've ever met someone who willingly signs themselves up to live in an office for months. but i get it. you love what you do." she smiles. "where're you thinking of going this winter? somewhere warm , i hope. you've earned it." the offer catches her off guard. a genuine, grateful smile spreads across her face. "that's actually really sweet of you. thank you." fingertips curl around her cup as she thinks it over. "i won't lie , answering emails sounds a hell of a lot less sticky than getting applesauce thrown at me or cutting off drunk regulars. i'd be interested if you're serious. worst case? you fire me after a week because i accidentally send someone's horoscope to the printer or something.”
harley's entire face lit up the second he spotted nadia. it wasn't subtle, either. the lazy grin he'd been wearing all afternoon softened into something warmer before he could stop it. if anyone had been paying close enough attention, they'd have caught it immediately. thankfully, harley had built a reputation on smiling at everyone. " hey, pretty girl, " he greeted, the words slipping out as naturally as breathing. whether he meant nadia or the toddler was left intentionally ambiguous. he propped himself up on his elbows atop the picnic table, watching as beau jr. carefully climbed from his hand onto hers. despite all his jokes, there was genuine care in the way he followed the little gecko's every step, making sure his tiny claws found steady footing. " first off, " harley said, feigning offense, “ he's a leopard gecko. geico's his corporate cousin. ” his eyes flicked back to nadia, a crooked smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. " and second... beau found out about five minutes after i named him. " a laugh escaped him. " i don't think he's forgiven me, which honestly just tells me i made the right call. "
his gaze lingered on her a beat longer than necessary before dropping to mila, who was staring at beau jr. with wide-eyed fascination. " she can hold him, " he assured gently, his voice noticeably softer around the little girl. “ just gotta use two hands. he's tiny, but he's braver than he looks. ” carefully, he slid one hand beneath the gecko, guiding him closer to mila. " there you go, little man, " he murmured to beau jr. “ go make a new friend. ” the gecko, apparently unbothered by his growing fan club, simply blinked and settled against the child's small hands. harley looked up just in time to catch nadia watching, and for a fleeting second the teasing disappeared altogether. " see? " he said quietly, unable to keep the fondness out of his voice. “ he's got better people skills than i do. ” then, because vulnerability lasted about as long as a texas snowstorm, his grin returned in full force. " don't let that fool you, though. he's still got langford blood. give him five minutes and he'll probably start judging everybody's barbecue. "
the blush slowly crept up onto her cheeks as she bit her lip and looked down at her feet for a second. if there was one person that she felt like she could be around at all times and not get sick of, it would be harley. she looked back up at him at the same moment his compliment slipped out and he was sitting up on his elbows. “you trying to get into my bed tonight or what?” she teased, but really she wouldn’t have minded if he did find his way to her house. when the gecko was on her, she made sure to be extra careful as she didn’t want to hurt this innocent creature even if he did kind of freak her out a little bit. his feign offense caused a chuckle, putting her free hand up in the air. “literally same thing, but we’ll pretend for your sake that it’s not.” she shakes her head, rolling her eyes playfully. “i mean would you forgive him if he named his pet harley jr? actually, don’t answer that. i feel like you’d think it’s pretty cool if he did.”
nadia watched the interaction and it felt like her ovaries exploded in that moment. the softness between them was sweet and she moved to sit on the picnic table, watching the two of them. mila had no fear as she held the creature in her tiny hands and she picked her phone out of her pocket as she took a picture of this to send to her father later on. “you’re doing so good, mila,” she said with a smile tugging at her lips. “hey you’ve got some pretty stellar people skills if i do so say myself.” as she watched him, she could see the facade slip back over and she couldn’t help but shake her head. she’s determined to get him out of that habit especially around her, but alas. “can you blame him, though? i mean i am absolutely judging everyone’s barbecue as we speak. have you had a chance to get any?” she moves to the little girl, letting the gecko go back into her hands and slowly moving it toward harley. “you should join us. I feel like I haven’t actually seen you in forever.” that was an exaggeration, but still it felt like that.
between her friend's presence, the logic she threw out there, and the fact that the brute seemed to realize that he was embarrassing himself in front of a whole crowd of people that had started to gather, callie could see the retreat in his eyes before he took a single step backward.
he tried one last attempt at arguing. another cry that callie had somehow cheated. at air hockey. but again, nadia's logic and the heckling kids had him storming away in the end. "oh, i'm good." a grin at her friend. "i'm just trying not to get thrown in a cell for whacking that douche with one of the strikers." it'd be an unnecessary headache for her mayoral father.
"hell yeah, let's play!" gesturing to the striker on the opposite side of the table, she encouraged nadia. "we'll get drinks after you lose. i'll buy. because yeah, i've been playing since i was a kid and haven't lost once. too bad there wasn't a league for this shit. ping pong got one." her head shook. "unfair."
nadia laughed as the guy disappeared into the crowd, calling after him just loud enough to make sure he heard, "yeah, next time try losing with a little dignity." she turned back to callie, bumping her shoulder with a grin. "i appreciate your dedication to not catching an assault charge. your dad probably does too."
sliding the striker into her hand, nadia rolled her wrist like she was warming up for some big tournament. "never lost once? that's either incredibly impressive or the biggest setup I've ever walked into." her brow arched playfully. "and here i was thinking we were getting drinks because we survived captain fragile ego."
she settled into position across the table, tapping the striker against the edge. "if i somehow pull off the impossible and beat the undefeated queen of air hockey, you're still buying the first round. If you win, " a smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth. "i'll do one dare of your choosing." without waiting another second, she dropped the puck onto the table. "let the games begin."

bonnie moved with the stealth of someone who had absolutely no business moving stealthily. crouched behind a display of handmade candles for all of three seconds before making her move , she snatched the lone my little pony x skullpanda blind box from the shelf the second the man's attention drifted entirely to nadia. she hugged it to her chest like she'd just recovered a stolen child. mission accomplished. by the time nadia rejoined her , bonnie was already speed-walking in the opposite direction with the world's guiltiest grin plastered across her face. " WE GOT HER ! " she whisper-shouted , unable to contain herself. she held the blind box up between them like it was the holy grail. “ operation pinkie pie was a complete success ! ”
she immediately threw both arms around nadia in a crushing hug , bouncing on the balls of her feet. " you're actually the greatest woman who's ever lived. " she pulled back just enough to cup nadia's face dramatically. “ seriously. if anyone ever asks me to rank my favorite people , you're number one. everybody else is fighting for second. ” then she glanced over nadia's shoulder toward the poor unsuspecting man. " ... also ... " she winced. “ he looked way too into that conversation. ” her hand came up to cover a laugh. “ girl , i thought you were just gonna ask him about his shoes or something. you had that man rethinking his entire weekend. ” bonnie tucked the blind box safely into her tote before looping her arm back through nadia's. “ c'mon. we have to leave the scene before he realizes he got honey-trapped over a pink plastic horse. ” she paused for exactly one beat. ". ..which , by the way , is a sentence i never thought i'd say. "
the hug caught nadia off guard, but she laughed anyway, wrapping an arm around bonnie's waist before dramatically squishing her cheeks right back. "oh, don't gas me up like that. i'm gonna start demanding people address me as her majesty." she let bonnie's face go with a grin, glancing over her shoulder toward the poor guy. "i was going to ask about his shoes," she defended, failing to hide the amusement in her voice. "then he mentioned he was looking for the limited edition one, and I saw my opening. next thing I knew I was giving that man an existential crisis over the economics of collectible toys."
nadia shrugged with fake innocence. "i never technically lied. i simply redirected his priorities." looping her arm through bonnie's again, she started steering them away from the crowd. "and for the record," she added with a slight smile, "if this goes down as the dumbest crime either of us has ever committed, i'll be thrilled. 'honey-trapped a man over a pink plastic horse' is the kind of headline that belongs in a history book. we'll be famous; i mean you'll be more famous than me, but still." she gave bonnie's arm a gentle squeeze. "now let's go get some drinks, on me."

harley had worn the same smug grin all evening , the kind that usually meant he was either about to do something stupid or had already done it and was waiting to see who noticed first. he was sprawled across a picnic bench, one boot hooked beneath the seat, absently picking at the label of a beer bottle when something shifted beneath the collar of his white t-shirt. a tiny leopard gecko poked its head out from the neckline. harley caught the inevitable double take and immediately lifted a hand in surrender. “ whoa, whoa — don't freak out! ” as if on cue, the little lizard climbed a little farther onto his shoulder, blinking at the world with complete indifference. harley grinned. " he's friendly. promise. " he reached up to let the gecko crawl onto his fingers before holding him up with unmistakable pride. “ this is my son , beau jr. ” the name was delivered with a perfectly straight face , as though introducing a family member at a backyard barbecue was the most normal thing in the world.
nadia honestly didn't know how she ended up nannying for a side job but here she was at the bbq cook off with a two year old by her side. mila’s father was somewhere participating, so she was taking the little girl around to keep her occupied. she hadn’t been paying too much attention to the people around her, just trying to keep the little one entertained when she heard a shriek coming from the little girl. nadia’s attention quickly perked as the toddler pointed to the man laying on the picnic table. a smirk tugged at her lips as she followed the little girl over. “my, my, my what do we have here?” she picked the little girl up, setting her on her hip as she moved to stand next to harley. “only you would bring a geico to a bbq cook out with the ungodly name of beau jr. how pissed was your brother when he found out? or has he not found out yet?” she moved her hand to his, slowly allowing the creature to move onto her fingers where she brought it up to the little girl. “Isn’t he cool? he’s like that little dude in tangled that you like. do you think she could hold him or is he like gonna freak her out too much?”

" i don't know , babe . . . i feel like the evidence is presenting itself ⸺ with the cheating allegations and the moving truck i saw outside of their house the other day ? what other conclusion could there possibly be to come to ? " aria was one of the worst types of neighbors and she knew it , a nosey one , one that always managed to get into your business while somehow barely leaving a trace that she was there in the first place . always spent too much time lurking in front of her house , bay window situated just to the side of her living room a perfect spot to enjoy her morning tea accompanied by the entertainment of people watching the rest of the residents that called magnolia ridge home . research , she'd prefered to call it , a study in sociology and the cracks that ran through the social structure of willow glen . " but anyways . . . " attention is drawn back to the croissant she'd been too busy talking to have a chance to eat , careful as she rips the pastry in half , inspecting the layers before tearing off a piece and dipping it into the warmth of her coffee . " have you heard much of anything lately or have you just come to get intel from me ? "i mean there may be other reasons, but i would have to agree that i think the rumors are true. who do you really think was the cheater?" nadia couldn't exactly disagree with what aria was saying. she, too, thought that it was pretty obvious that the allegations were true. she wasn't always one to gossip but ever since coming to willow glen, it was like there was so much going on that it was hard not to fall into the gossip bubble. she sometimes wondered what others were saying about her and her family behind her back and what rumors were floating around there. she really didn't want to know, but she would be a liar if she said that she didn't think about it. she took a sip of her coffee, leaning back against the chair. "so i've started nannying for the sinclair's during the day and i feel like there's something suspicious about them. i can't exactly put my finger on it, but it's like the vibes. do you know anything about them?" nadia shook her head, her finger tracing the rim of her coffee cup. "me? nothing much. bartending job is not bringing in as much money as i need so started nannying a few weeks ago. i feel like i don't have any time to do anything other than work, but you know how that goes. what about you? how is the life of aria going?"

❛ it just occurred to me … ❜ she frowned at the awkwardly large character swaying as it's theme song played, the weight of the antlers making the person inside the suit stumble a bit. ❛ what was the thought process behind the themin' of this place ? ❜ it was odd, now that she thought about it – not to mention she didn't think whoever was in charge had ever actually seen a moose in person, considering how the mascot looked very much horse-like. ❛ i mean, did they look at washin'ton state and say, ' hey, that reminds me of roller coasters ! ' or somethin' ? ❜
nadia let out a laugh, watching the poor mascot wobble another few steps before barely catching itself. “i think the thought process was probably ' what animal's big enough to slap on a billboard ? ' “ she mused, lips twitching. “and then nobody stopped them or were scared to say something because they’d probably get fired.” Her gaze lingered on the oversized antlers. “that ain't even a moose, that's a horse wearing a halloween costume. “ she shrugged, amusement still coloring her voice. “maybe they figured washington's got trees, moose like trees, and people like roller coasters. connect enough dots and eventually it starts making sense as long as you don't think about it too hard.” her lips pressed together as she looked back at her friend. “what would you do differently?”

if air hockey were an olympic or professional sport callie was fairly confident she'd be a medalist and world champion. she just couldn't lose. even when she tried to go soft and easy on these kids she still sent them off crying, and she'd feel bad if it weren't some important life lesson for them to learn.
after the slew of teenagers that'd stepped up to the table in challenge in the arcade room of the bowling alley and got trounced, some university jock decided he was the one to take down the reigning ( and undefeated ) champion. except when callie had handed him a loss of his very own he took it even worse than the kids had.
"dude just chill ok..." the blonde attempted to placate, hands motioning in a hopeful deescalating manner. instead of huffing and walking away he continued on about how she was cheating, demanded a rematch, all while some kids were laughing that he got beat by a girl. "it's just air hockey, my guy, it's not that serious." callie again tried to subdue as he puffed out his chest.
motion near the entrance into the arcade caught her attention and she immediately waved them over after capturing their attention. "hey, over here!" normally she didn't back down from a fight but she was tiny in comparison to this wounded ego. "so, my friend's here and yeah, i think you should just go back over wherever that's not here and we're gonna play."
nadia had only caught the tail end of the shouting before callie's wave reeled her in. her brows lifted as she took in the scene; the air hockey table, the cluster of giggling kids, and the guy looking like he'd just lost the championship instead of a five-minute game. “seriously?” she asked, looking him up and down before glancing at callie. “all this over air hockey?” she planted herself beside her friend, arms folding loosely across her chest. there wasn't much menace in her expression, just a tired sort of disbelief. “she beat you fair and square, didn't she? then take the loss and move on. everybody loses at something eventually.” nadia nodded toward the rest of the arcade. “there's, like a hundred other games in here if you're lookin' to win one. quit makin' a scene before the mascot comes over and has to break it up. ain't nobody wants that kinda embarrassment.” a grin tugged at the corner of her mouth as she looked back to callie. “c'mon. winner keeps the table, right? i wanna see if you're actually that good. the more you ignore him, the sooner he’ll leave. you okay, though?”

bonnie laughed , delighted that nadia was so readily willing to become her accomplice. " aw , you'd do that for me ? " she asked , wrapping an arm around nadia's shoulders and pulling her in close. “ see ? this is why you're my favorite. ” she looked back toward the culprit , eyes narrowing suspiciously as she watched him browse another shelf. “ honestly , he looks easy to distract. ” bonnie tapped her chin thoughtfully , already concocting a plan. then she looked at nadia. “ besides , you're hot. how could he possibly resist ? ” she grinned mischievously. " you go over there , smile a little , ask him some question about pokémon cards or crypto or whatever men like these days , and while he's distracted ... " bonnie gasped dramatically. “ operation pinkie pie commences. ” a pause. “ wow. that sounded significantly more criminal out loud. ” another pause. " we're still doing it , though. "
"girl, you already know i'd do a lot for you," she says with a smile, leaning more into her side as bonnie wraps her arm around her. she flipped her hair over her shoulder with a smirk. "tell me more reasons why i'm your favorite?" she let out a small chuckle before she moved to pull her top down slightly to accentuate her cleavage. "i mean i feel like most men are easy to distract given the right circumstances but being hot does have it's advantages." she ran her fingers through her hair and nodded to bonnie's suggestions to what to ask him about. she laughed at the excitement of her friend and found herself getting ready for this said operation pinkie pie. "okay, here we go." nadia put on her gloss, forcing the sultry smile on her face and headed over to the guy. she complimented his looks, let her hand rub his arm as she inched closer. she kept him occupied but she kept glancing over at bonnie. it wasn't long before the plan had worked and she waited for bonnie to get out of view before she blew the guy a kiss and headed to meet her friend. "i love being a flirt but some guys are just so hard to flirt with and he was one of them. anyways, did you get it?"

“ hey ! that's mine ! ” bonnie's hand shot out at the exact same moment as the stranger's. for one glorious second , she thought she had it. then the man plucked the blind box from the display and casually walked away. the last my little pony x skullpanda box. bonnie stood frozen in horror. “ oh my god. ” she turned slowly toward whoever was standing nearest to her , eyes wide with betrayal. “ oh my god ! did you see that ? he just committed a crime. ” she pointed an accusatory finger at the retreating figure. that was the last one ! i only need pinkie pie ! i've spent , like , four hundred dollars on these stupid little horses and now some middle-aged man in boat shoes is going to ruin my collection ? " bonnie immediately started gathering her hair into a ponytail. “ oh , that fucker. ” she yanked the hair tie tight. “ hold my purse. i'm going to beat him up. ” a beat. “ not , like , seriously. i'm a general manager now. i can't assault civilians. ” another beat. " i'm just going to follow him around the block party and make him feel weird until he gives it back. "
finding herself at the tiny sprouts booth once again, she was looking for something her sister had said she wanted. some kind of animal that she couldn't quite remember the name of, but she'd know it if she saw it on display. she was looking at the different boxes searching for this when she noticed a commotion a few spaces down from her. when she noticed it was bonnie, she kept a watch at the scene unfolding. she had moved closer to step in but then the man walked away and she shouted for him to stop. "oh no he doesn't. i don't know who he thinks he is but he is not going to get away with that," she says with a sterness in her voice. "i mean i've handled bigger guys than that at the bar so i think with you and me both we can take him. hell i'll even do it so you don't have to. we don't need a scandal on our hands." she turned to watch where the guy had gone before glancing back over at bonnie. "okay, look here's the plan. how about i flirt with him, bat my eyelashes a little bit, act like some lost girl that needs his help; fuckers like that always want to be the hero. and when he's distracted enough, you come in for the swoop and steal the box? i think it could really work. wanna give it a go?"

water clings to august's skin, a bit chilly as the sun begins to set. " i can't believe i let you talk me into that. " there's no malice in his tone, instead a slightly goofy grin spreading on the firefighter's features. shirt clings to his frame, soaked through and through, picking up a nearby towel to help rid himself of some of the wetness still lingering on his skin. " i got second place so i guess it's not too bad, right ? do you think i should've hit the gym a little harder ? " his gaze shifts. " be honest. "
“oh come on. you know i would have joined you up there but my sisters here and i am trying to stay on her good side so you had to do it.” the smirk on her face was hidden by her hands, but the amusement could be heard in her voice. “you know I think second place is better than first anyway,” she says as she lets her hand rest against his arm. “honestly? you’re too hot for your own good so getting in the gym would have only made it worse and then you for sure would have been like last place. they’d be too jealous to give you winner.” her hands folded against her chest. “you know you can take your shirt off and it’ll probably be less cold, just saying,” she says with a wink. “i might have something you can put on in my car if you wanna go take a look.”
“ oh, nadia. ” she languishes, acting quite the drama queen as she takes her hand, feigning her own as so dainty and weak. “ i need . . . a magic carpet, to carry me. and maybe some wet wipes . . . ” mavis caresses her stomach, now somewhat protruding, and knocks her head back with a groan. “ oooh. i’m pregnant with a little pie baby. i can’t walk another step. ” and she cautiously wobbles to the nearest bit of shade, pulling nadia along with her. “ i almost had it, though, didn’t i? well, if i’m still here by this time next year, and if i practice . . . ” and that was a nice dream, wasn’t it? “ what did the winner get? did you see? i went into a total coma. it wasn’t, like, something super cute and cool, was it?! ”
"i can carry you over to the tables, " she offered, though she really didn't know if she was being serious or not. "you look very pretty with a pie baby. what are you gonna name her? or him?" she moved to reach into her backpack and handed mavis her small package of wipes. "i always carry these with me just in case anyone needs them, and this sounds like a perfect time for them to be used." she followed the others lead as she ran her fingers through her hair. "you were so close. i could have bet money that you would win, but there is always a next time. what makes you think that you won't be here next year for this?" shaking her head, she glanced to where the table was before looking back at mavis. "nothing cool or exciting. i think it was just a gift card or something so you definitely didn't miss out, " she offered. "what do you say we go get a drink?"
when clara heard there would be a food truck serving gourmet burgers at the block party, she didn't hesitate to clear her afternoon so that she could have a taste of them. she's walking along willow square looking for the specific truck when a voice calls out to her. turning, she finds herself face to face with archer and a smile instantly lights up her face. ❝ hey ! yes, they turned out perfectly — my apartment is much more colourful now. you should drop by and take a look at them sometime, ❞ she responds, subconsciously tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. ❝ what brings you here today ? i heard there's a food truck selling gourmet burgers and i couldn't not have some — i just haven't found it yet. ❞
the smile on her face was contagious and he couldn't help the smile that formed on his lips. her offer for him to come view her apartment caused his brow to raise and his lips to press together. "you know i might just take you up on that offer. that could absolutely give me some ideas for my house. it hasn't been long since i've moved in and it doesn't feel like a home yet, you know?" he nods, looking toward the food trucks with a chuckle. "i think i've ate at most of the food trucks that are here, but not the burger one. if you don't mind me tagging along, we can find it. did you just come for the burgers?"

on his perusal through the booths, rooster had clocked the tarot table moments before mackenzie showed up and, in all honesty, was about to turn away until she spoke.
“uh, yeah, but i dunno if i really believe in it. i don’t need a stranger telling me my past was shit because i damn well know it; i don't need them to tell me my present is chaotic or whatever because i know that as well; and i highly doubt that anyone can tell me my future.” rooster paused. he probably came across as grumpy and cynical and that wasn’t a good impression to make.
“sorry,” he then huffed, scratching the back of his neck. “i don’t mean to be like that. ignore me… anyway, what do you make of this tarot stuff ?”
mackenzie was amused listening to him talk about what he thought about tarot reading. she couldn't say that her opinioned varied from his, considering she never thought that any of that was real. maybe she beleived in ghosts or like reincarnation but using cards to predict your future? doesn't seem very likely but she didn't see the harm in doing it. whatever money was spent would be raised for a good cause and she would get a kick out of it. and now she wanted him to do it with her so she could see what the cards said for his future.
"i think just like you. i don't really think you can get much from a set of cards because like you and me live two separate lives, but if we get a draw on the same card then how is the meaning different for the both of us? i just think its all in good fun and i like to see what they can come up with." she paused, looking between him and booth. "come on, lets do it. see what they say your future holds. it can't be all bad, right?"
CLOSED STARTER FOR SUMMER BOONE ( @sundrifting )
photobooth
the sun was setting in the back, crowds dispersing from all areas as the evening was slowing down. the blonde had stopped by very few of the booths on her way around, but somehow found her way back to the photobooth. she had so many of those hanging up in her room from when she was younger and her and friends would spend big money taking so many of them. it felt nostalgic to say the least and she really didn't want to go in by herself and her daughter had already left for the evening with her aunt. when she spotted a familiar face in the crowd, she quickly grabbed her arm. " come with me, " she said with a smirk on her face. " i need these memories and i don't think we have one picture together so what better way, right?"
