Few thoughts on "Le deluge" (2024)
Okay so i stumbled upon this movie quite randomly and what a blessing. It was such a good movie. Emotionally very hard to watch, I found myself questioning why did i decide to watch it right before going to sleep for three days sleep (no regrets tho). I loved how it explored the humanity of the royal family, it was very refreshing to see. I see how it was a little unexplored, I thing additional half an hour would be good. But I just loved it. I got chills and the movie keeps you in suspence till the end, even tho you know for the whole time exactly what will happen. It deals with very hard emotions, and does it well. The only con i see is kinda the battle with my morality. I feel movie like that, in this political state is quite, i don't know, humanising top elites doesnt feel right for me. I wouldn't choose it as subcject of my art (... okay in ideal world i might be hypocrite with my hyperfixations) so if I meant it to be influential at all. But other than that I loove it, and from artistic and humanitarian point of wiev its amazing I love it and would love to see more works like that. Anyway thats what i mainly wanted to talk about. Difference between political and artistic perception. I think this dilema will stay with me for quite some time. One more remarque are colours, like why its so whitewashed (at least not whole dark and you can see the screen), but bring back colours to cinema (not those super ugly plastic colourfouls tho). As for historical accuracy, I can't say much, and I really don't care. It's not a documentary, and you can clearly see that sharing historical knowledge is not the goal of it. It's just use as narrative device and I personally respect that, dont expect 100% accuracy. And overall i also don't know enough on the subject to tell.
I'm gonna brag a little about english lectors on audiobooks. Well not them per se, but their inability to pronounce French names. So I've been listening to "Twelve who rules" by R.R. Palmer (this information is not that important), read by David Stifel. So he's not a particullary bad lector but problems starts when we come to french names (and mind you thats a book about frev, so there's one in like every sentence). Another thing is, I speak french pretty well, so thats hurting me more lol. And some are worse than other, but what threw me over the edge is how he pronounces "Camille" i cant expalain it in english, hell so illl try by letter so he goes like fucking "KamijA", what the f*ck is this A doing at the end!???? (not the first time, in other book i listened also pronounced last e, but like e). This book has literally "twelve" in title, I know english speakers know the concept of silent last "e". Then i realised, this lector does it with most of names that ends with "e". I felt like perhaps I am wrong, and I hallucinated this pronounciation. But then i opened french movie and I was right. I totally understand, that not everyone must speak french, but for the love of god, its not that hard to ask someone how to actually read it. I literally was there, praying for Desmouilines to be guillotined ASAP, because I couldn't bear it.

Today I decided to go to the local library to see what they had on the French Revolution. And... um... I came across this only one book.
It's titled "The Bastille Lie" and it's written by Andrzej Marceli Cisek - a medical electronics engineer.
"The Bastille Lie" is a book written with incredible passion. It will undoubtedly be considered controversial by many historians. The author does not hide his sympathies and antipathies. It is a truly revolutionary way of looking at the Revolution!
Andrzej Cisek studied at the Warsaw University and University of Technology, and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He holds a Master of Science in Engineering specializing in medical electronics. He is the founder of the Americans for Independent Poland association and a long-time member of the Council of the Józef Piłsudski Institute in New York. He is the author of numerous articles published in the Polish broadcast and underground press.
And here I hesitated, holding the book in my hand. But i decided to leaf through it.
It's a book that hates frev as i can see. The words and sentences that caught my eye were:
- "LEFTISTS. LEFTISTS!!!!"
- "The cult of evil and death"
- "Robespierre, as a child, was hated by his peers because he was a snitch"
- "Robespierre hated women" (I may be wrong here, but i think instead of open misogyny, he was more of a fan of patriarchy. Feel free to correct me if you have any historical sources that indicate otherwise.) "But he had a love interest who rejected him (?)"
- "Robespierre had a mistress in Paris whom he kept and then threw out"
- "Robespierre liked the attentions of old Duplay's ugly daughter" (what, ugly?? xD After all, in the famous painting, Eléonore Duplay is quite attractive...)
After that, I closed the book and put it back on the shelf.
It's a pity that in Poland there are no good, neutral books about the French Revolution All the ones I've seen strictly demonize this period in history.
Spróbuję to ogarnąć. Jeśli jednak wyprzedzisz mnie i sam ją wypożyczysz, daj znać.
Ooo yasss let's goo.

Did I have a lot of work today? Of course I did.
Is this an art blog? Not really.
Do I have 19,990 unfinished drafts on various interesting topics (imo)? Naturally.
Is there an unfinished Bonchamps in the room judging me? Of course there is.
Did I spend 50 minutes sketching what I choose to believe is Lucille in charcoal because I randomly found an old charcoal set? Of course I did.
happy pride

Everyone who knows about Edward Wojtaszek's Thermidor aka The CSP Went Shopping at the Goth Store and Is Trapped in a Hellraiser Dimension play explain it to @alchemyfire now: it's their birthday today, and they don't know about this masterpiece yet.
Sorry to do it like this, but I can't comment.
Do you know is it available anywhere online? I don't need subtitles or anything. I just see only the trailer and I would love to watch it whole.
