The Delagardin

Thank you for stopping by at our blog and even a bigger thank you if you have taken your time to listen to our podcast. If you listened to the audio, you might have noticed I speak English in an unusual way. You guessed it right, I grew up speaking Japanese, and English is not my primary language. The accents and wrong grammar you will hear here are because I am still learning English. Since I came to the US to study in college, I was always afraid that I would sound stupid saying pointless things because I did not understand the language being spoken. I was too scared to interrupt the conversations by asking what was going on and revealing I was not following. While I came to the US by my choice and have a lot of fond memories here, it definitely challenged me socially and mentally, especially when I have shy and timid tendencies around people I am not used to. I was always interested in voice acting. In my teenage years, I used to say Sakura's and Tsunade's lines aloud while reading the comic books of Naruto when I was alone at home. It was my secret way of self-expression. I did not tell anybody about this until I met my husband. I used to think that I could have pursued becoming a voice actor if I were in Japan, that I would have been a more expressive and successful person if I were able to speak perfect English. However, Jordan helped me realize that was not true. D&D allowed me to express myself using my voice, tell stories, and have fun here at this moment. Even though your speech might be different from the norm, your language might not be perfect, you still have something to share and contribute to this world (while still learning and growing). You might not be exactly like "that person" you admire, but you are cool too. As much as we wish that people enjoy the content we create, we also hope that what we do inspires people to express who they truly are, no matter what "flaws" they might have. We would like to demonstrate that you can show yourself even though things might make you believe your voice is worthless and unimportant. That being said, you are allowed to find my "accents" to be different and laugh at them, of course with love :) I hope you continue listening to our podcast and enjoy the adventure that Shahale and Ko-Dhunad encounter!

During my first dive into the Delagardin, I found my way to the Forges. I was shown a bliss jar for the first time. A truly astonishing and weird creation. It looks like a small pot, that has an extended an extended neck and a wide mouth. On the body of it, lies a small sight glass, where you can see small white glowing dots that seem to swim around inside bliss jar. Oddly, when you turn it upside down, it doesn’t empty. 

The merchant, who’s stall lied quite a distance away from the rest of camp and I only found by accident, offering to sell me one of these for what I eventually found out to be a crude price, showed me how the jar works, and what it could be used for.

Shahale and Ko-Dhunad make themselves comfy in the presence of a dead-sky-blue haired lady, it’s a nice dinner chat episode, right?

Delagardin Episode 3! “Hunting for a Light” 

Shahale (and I literally just realized that our artist and I had different interpretations of her name on accident lol) and Ko-Dhunad need to find some food after being robbed by a band of goblins. Will they find a little respite, or only more misfortunes? 

              The Depths is usually the first area to be explored by any brave enough to climb down into the gardin, but it actually isn’t the original entry point, at least not for the people who built upon it. The Depths were actually a massive mining district. The blue crystals that grow here in abundance were mined heavily. It isn’t exactly known why. Some research suggests that the mined crystal were used for construction or weaponry, but I haven’t personally found any evidence to support either claims. 

             The crystals are not actually mineral in nature, they are in fact some species of extremely hard plant matter. Despite their biological nature, a bliss jar doesn’t seem to harvest any bliss from the material, however it is hard to obtain bliss from flora, as it seems you need to gather a lot of it to acquire even one ounce of bliss. I’ve heard some say that there were once earth elementals with crystalline growths on their body who would harvest and consume these crystal plants. However, I haven’t seen any elementals, at least not this deep. Another strange property of the crystals, is that they seem to exhaust air somehow. I’m not sure if this is a biological or magical function of the species, but it does explain why parts of the Depths that contain the crystal plant can be quite windy.

            The fauna here are quite amazing in their diversity as well as their capability of handling the biome. It seems that beasts from all over the world call this place their home. It may be that there are more than one of these super-structures in other parts of the world, and that they have a connection to each other, teleportation magic, or the people who lived here revered hunting exotic sport. However even though plain beasts exist down here, many of them are transformed or mutated probably from the exposure of bliss in the gardin, forming all matter of dangerous monstrosities. If it were not for some extinction event that happened to the people of the gardin, than I imagine the beasts would have gotten to them eventually. A particular example of the mutations theoretically caused by bliss are the species of goblin that exist down here. The goblins have pale fur and long monkey like tails, they seem to have a little less intelligence than a common goblin, and speak through shrieks and chitters. They seem harmless by themselves, but can be very threatening in packs that they travel and hunt with. They’re also really capable thieves, and seem to worship the bio-luminescent flora that grows so capably in the gardin.
