i loathe tighnari’s doc martens and weird one armed t shirt hoodie so so much. i think even before we get to why is he so pale he’s fluorescent the thing that bothers me the most about this design is how the details don’t work together at all and present a character with a way different personality than we get. tighnari’s design looks like sumeru’s bennett (perplexing but i guess you’re going for a goofy look) and then you are introduced to the most condescending character in the story. it doesn’t work!
owing to the fact that the story implies he’s of an ancient fox people separate from the rest of the citizens of sumeru i decided to move away from specific cultural ties and just go with traditional clothing in the region that would fit his forest ranger life. i’m not a foot fetishist i swear but i think it makes sense for him to be barefoot- he’s a lot more in tune with nature than the rest of the rangers. flowy, light material for pants makes sense. i got the sense from his original design that he’s fond of ornaments on his outfit, translated that into largely jewelry. i borrowed from traditional turkish clothing forms here and there because it’s what i know but otherwise i wanted to keep him rooted in the fictional.
another challenge for myself was to keep iterating a design with the same colors but to come up with distinct designs that i like equally. i think the right-most one is my least favorite but otherwise i think i succeeded in my goals
which one’s your favorite?
