“I believe that you do what you can your highness.” She shrugged, moving to clean up the unfortunate mess. 

“I try,” she said, moving out of her way. “I always end up wondering if there’s anything else I can do, but I have very little jurisdiction, actually, so a lot of it is out of my hands. Not that I’d be much help, really. I’ve not exactly been schooled in such matters.”

She looks up at the sky, enjoying the gentle glowing of the stars overhead. “They’re gorgeous. I’ve never been good at stargazing,” She’d never had the patience to listen to all the names. “I just know they’re pretty to look at. What about you?” She asks, turning to Hugo. “Can you stargaze?”

there may be better dancers, but she’s the only one he’s willing to have as his partner. especially for something as unprofessional as their current endeavor. & by his warped logic, that makes her the best by default. “at least you have a forte when it comes to dancing.” he chuckles, amusement clear in his gaze. “i’d love to see you dance some day. ballet, that is.” he’s never cared for dancing in general, but he’d take up an interest in it if she were the one performing.

She ducks her head bashfully, a blush forming on her cheeks at his flattery. “I’d love to perform for you.” Even right now, she wants to add but she doesn’t want to come across as over-eager. “It’s less boring than a lot of people think. Especially if you dance to the less classical stuff.” She loves to dance to more modern music, enjoying the contrast between her own very classical movements and the contemporary sounds coming from her speakers. “Lana Del Ray’s best for that. It’s soft enough that it sounds nice, but the beat’s clear, so you can still dance to it easily.”

of course he’s right. he raises an eyebrow at her offer, a rejection already forming on his lips. it’s gone the second he realizes that getting coffee with this misguided stranger would make for the perfect excuse to show up late for his study date at noon. he rather fake an interest in conversation with her than deal with the idiots from his physics class. “i actually wouldn’t mind that. you don’t have to spend your money on me, though. i’m perfectly capable of buying my own coffee.”

“I never said you weren’t. And I know I don’t have to. I’d like to. But, if you don’t want me to, that’s perfectly fine by me.” More money to spend once she gets to the clothing store, which for now is shut, but she hopes by the time she’d finished her coffee it’ll have opened. “Come on, it’s just this way. It’s not too far,” She says, heading down the street, rushing slightly to get out of the cold.

“I dont listen to much to gossip. I’ve heard only the vague things. I just like to stick to my work.”

“That’s a very good attitude to adopt.” She can only imagine what they say about her. “I don’t pay any heed to them. The last time I checked, they were blaming me for the state of childrens’ schools.” She laughs at the ridiculousness of the whole idea. “Perhaps next time I check they’ll blame me for the price of petrol.”

he’s careful not to make any sudden movements while maintaining her set pace. last thing he needed was to trip over himself & prove her wrong in the worst possible way. his smile widens at her singing, with himself torn between watching his feet or meeting her gaze. he’ll just take his chances & keep his eyes locked on hers. “Well, seems I’ll have nothing to worry about then. I certainly won the lottery with my choice of dance partner, didn’t I?”

A blush creeps across her cheeks as she smiles at him, stopping her singing to speak to him. “I assure you there are dancers far better than me.” She’s not just being modest; while she had been given formal lessons as a child, she’d never had the patience for ballroom dancing, though ballet was something she was terribly fond of. “I can’t say partner dances are my forte, to be honest. I’m better at ballet. I’m too short to actually be one, though.”

“You are just as wise and noble as your rumors foretell.” Collette smiled slightly. “And I appreciate your understanding.”

She ducked her head bashfully. “Thank you very much. I’d like to know more about those rumours, actually,” She said. She was curious about what other people said. While she mostly paid no heed to the words of the tabloids, curiosity sometimes got the better of her.
