For our Anniversary we wanted to be very low key and head somewhere we could drive for a weekend. Newport, Rhode Island has always been on our bucket list so we figured why not. 

It's about a 3.5-4 hour drive from NYC in Summer traffic but definitely worth it. Newport has some beautiful beaches, mansions to explore and amazing food. In our 3 days there we managed to see a lot and of course eat, eat, eat.

When we first got to town we were starving so we stopped in at Mission Burger - honestly one of the best burgers & fries Ive had. They do not use lettuce but instead watercress (I still dont know why i am all about this watercress). Ever since I have been trying to recreate this burger at home with pretty much no luck at all. The fries - Im dreaming of those fries. 

We really enjoyed our time at the Chanler. Our room was beautiful with its own deck for taking in the sunrise and sunset. The property has their own fleet of Buick's that will take you around town and come get you when you're done. This is very handy if you want to get day drunk or night drunk. 

Dinner our first night was at the Spiced Pear on the Chanler's property. We stayed close to the hotel because we were tired and it was tough to get a reservation on a Friday evening (make them in advance in the Summer for anywhere you eat on a weekend in Newport). 

For the rest of the weekend we set out to see Newport's Mansions - I'll have a separate post on these next week.

Heron Preston for DSNY, the first designer collaboration with the NYC Department of Sanitation.

Held in the NYC Department of Sanitation Salt Shed located on Spring Street. Preston redesigned and collaborated with the Dept of Sanitation to redesign the agency uniforms. 

We were guests of Stella Artois last week for the Le Savoir event hosted in NYC. Le Savoir is a multi sensory dining experience - bringing you through the four seasons. All of the food created by Bompas & Parr, is perfectly complimented by Stella Artois Beer & Cidre.

Think Sleep No More, where the set and scenery are edible. Potted carrots that you harvest out of edible dirt, tomatoes infused with strawberry that you pluck from the vine. Performers carried out their experiments around us as we moved through the lab and in to the green house.
