*********
It came like a gunshot to the face, the news blaring it over every piece of media possible.
And why wouldn't it be? EonCore Tech's chairman found shot dead in his home.
She couldn't believe it was real. Shaking her head violently, she clutched her phone closer to her chest unwilling to believe Valko was dead.
Their first date was perfect, everything about it. The introduction between mutual friends, the shared interests in science and protocore technology. Their taste in shitty music and obsession over food and family. He hadn't even cared that she had a good decade or more on him in age. The date was so good that they extended it out several hours, clubbing and barhopping the night away until he convinced her to let him drop her off at home.
"I won't kiss you yet."
She pouted, a little tipsy and very attracted to the redhead with the soft hair and heated golden eyes. "Why not?"
Valko smirked, leaning against the door frame, watching her worry his tie between her fingers. "Well, first of all, gorgeous, my momma taught me to respect women. And she'd kill me if she heard I made a pass at a slightly tipsy, but still alcohol inebriated woman."
"Even if I consent?"
"As much as I want to, pretty girl, even if you consent."
Worrying her lip, she didn't want him to leave just yet. "What about a hug and your number?"
He laughed, a deep full chested thing, his head tilting back to give you a tantalizing view of his neck muscles and Adam's apple. "You got it, pretty girl."
Valko's arms had been the warmest thing she'd felt in years. His scent of patchouli, leather and the woods was such a perfect ending to that night. They'd spoken every day since then, a little over a week, sometimes for hours! There were even some risqué video calls that she thought she would never do but there was something about him that pulled her to him. She thought that she might have found somebody serious enough that they set their next date for the 9th of the next month.
Until yesterday, the first. He hadn't called her. Messages just stopped early that morning. His phone went straight to voicemail the entire day.
And now…
Valko Ao, EonCore Tech Chairman and philanthropist found shot dead in his home, aged twenty-six. Survived by parents, cousins, other family member and one pseudo-girlfriend- her. Confirmed, the culprit and their associates had turned themselves in that same day, but the news was slow and she was hoping that he was just busy.
But he was dead. And there was nothing she could do about it.
