This yearâs edition of the zine was produced from submissions received before 22nd May, i.e. at a time of global adjustment to a virus that exposed the worldâs inequalities and brought it to pause. About a week after this date, the George Floyd protests started in the US and spread globally. Delaying the festival felt necessary as many of us were personally affected by the intensity of this time, going straight from lockdown into mass protest scenarios. Despite the delays, creating spaces for voices of colour to exist as priority felt more important than ever. So we are delighted to finally publish the zine to coincide with an online edition of our festival. This collection includes poetry, paintings, photography and written pieces, all of which centre worlds that exist outside of the white hegemony. The zine will be available online for the first time. The 60 page collection is being printed on recycled paper in full colour, and will also be available as a PDF. Both will be available to order from our Bandcamp during and after the festival. We hope to be able to distribute our zines from behind a physical merch table at a show in the not-too-distant future. Contributors: A sketchy hand, A.A. Noun, Adam Karenina Sherif, Afroditi Goulioumi, Ahilapalapa Rands, Alkebuluan Merriweather, Alyssa Smith-Lee, Baris YĂźksel, Gayathiri Kamalakanthan, Glory Samjolly, Ibrahim Noor, Jelly Cleaver, Jenan Younis, Jo Walsh and Ariana Davis, Kelsea Delatango, Kim M Reynolds, Larissa Brown, Maira Butt, Marco Marcelline, Maria Rosamojo, Mariano Dos Reis Borges, Momoe Tasker, Nadia Mirza Saadi, Nile HQ, Priscila Hernandez, Shimul Chowdhury, V23, Vijay Patel Page layouts, collation, etc. by the Decolonise Fest zine team - Ishani Jasmin, Sandy Gill, Moni Serneabat, Syra Tariq

They are based in London and are part of Screaming Toenail, Brown Belt and Rebecka Reinhard's band. - Alda // Deliriousink, an illustrator, tattooist, and vocalist from LĂĄi. Decolonise Fest Online opens next Tuesday 1st September with "Shadow Sistxrs Fight Club presents - Entering into the Serpent: Dialoguing with Kali led by Monique & ClĂŠmentine Bedos". đ In their words: "Rage is a natural and valid emotion in these times. In the midst of a pandemic, the government continues to fail our communities and police brutality is still enforced on the most vulnerable. Systemic racism is felt more keenly in this time of great oppression, and around the world we grieve the loss of our siblings. It is important to accept these emotions as they come. In validating our grief, we can embody that which will enable us to see us through these strange times, and embrace rage with methods that are both validating and healing. Clem (@clembedos) leads us through a journey of Tantric breath work, bringing us into contact with the Goddess of Revolution, our Divine Mother, Kali. Monique (@blackvenusinfurs) will then teach a few simple martial arts techniques that will allow us to physically embody the principles of power, protection and pleasure." đ Tickets for this interactive workshop are FREE - secure your spot through @dicefm, link in bio! đŤ Decolonise Fest online is supported using funding from @aceagrams đ . . . . #shadowsistxrsfightclub #clementinebedos #kali #decolonisefestonline #pocpunx #workshop #dicefm #artscouncilengland (at Beyond This World) https://www.instagram.com/p/CESSNIWn3SY/?igshid=2r9lmyslba01

Weâre delighted to have Kenyan rock band @crystalaxiske performing on Thursday 3rd September for Decolonise Fest Online! The group, who formed in 2011, are a key part of the thriving Kenyan punk scene and are known for their brooding, larger than life, desert rock sound. đĽ The bandâs lyrics often draw on the brutality of both the legacy of colonialism and the Kenyan government. Their 2019 single âNyayo Houseâ is based on the torture chambers used by the government to silence dissidents, while 2018 single âLeopoldâ is about the atrocities inflicted on the Congo by King Leopold II of Belgium. You wonât want to miss the exclusive live set theyâve put together for this event - free tickets (or donation tickets!) are available from @dicefm, link in bio. đŤ Decolonise Fest online is supported using funding from @aceagrams. . . . . #crystalaxis #decolonisefest #decolonisefestonline #pocpunx #livestream #dicefm #artscouncilengland (at Virtual Show) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEJou-qnezK/?igshid=1e1zhrptcvcx1

Decolonise Fest stands in solidarity with all those fighting to end the racist, capitalist, imperialist and white supremacist structures that oppress people of colour around the globe. Today @bandcamp will once again waive their artist fees. We will split all proceeds from our Bandcamp today between the Majonzi fund, which is providing support to POC communities who have lost loved ones to COVID-19, and @blmuk. For the last three years, our festival has hosted POC artists and musicians from the alternative music scene. We have compilations from each year's lineup on our Bandcamp (link in bio). Please download these and support the artists included, as well as the organisations mentioned above.
