He hates when his dad says he's proud of him. He hates being called a hero or somebody's idol. He hates attention. He hates being told he's smart or a good friend or a good person. He can't believe that people actually like him and want him around. Either they want something from him, or he's tricked them into thinking he's someone he's not. Sooner or later they'll find out how much he actually sucks and he'll go back to being a reject.

He hates public appearances. He doesn't want to be perceived. He doesn't want people paying attention to what he has to say and repeating his words like he knows what the fuck he's talking about. He's terrified of fucking up and validating everyone who ever treated him like a detestable lunatic. It was so much easier to speak when he didn't have to worry about anyone actually listening.
