DEAR WHITE RPC

DEAR  WHITE  RPC  —   i  literally  have  never  heard  anyone  say  that  ?  i  think  that  that ‘ s  not  ---  a  smart  point  ?  you  are  a  writer  ,  writing  a  character  who  is  a  person  of  color .  people  still  in  2020  need  to  learn  the  difference  between  muse  and  mun  .  it ‘ s  not  like  you ‘ re  not  saying  :  “ hey , look  at  me  !  i ‘ m  a  poc  ! ”  and  if  you  are  ,  then  ,  that ‘ s  a  whole  other  subject  . 

think  about  ,  for  example  ,  the  percy  jackson  series  .  rick  riordan  is  white  ,  does  that  mean  every  character  in  the  books  should  be  white  ?  absolutely  not  .  i  think  that  white  authors  can  ,  and  should  not  only  just  include  people  of  color  in  their  stories  ,  and  pat  themselves  in  the  back  for  adding  a  poc  as  a  background  character  ,  but  write  complex  and  diverse  main  characters  of  color  .  we  need  more  representation  everywhere  .  same  goes  for  television  ,  or  hollywood  .  

that  being  said  ,  i  also  want  to  say  that  if  you  write  people  of  color  ,  you  obviously  have  to  do  some  research  beforehand  ,  to  do  so  respectfully  .  

this  is  just  my  opnion  and  my  experience  on  the  matter  ,  and  shouldn ‘ t  be  taken  as  an  absolute  truth  .  talk  to  your  poc  friends  ,  educate  yourself  .  followers  ,  (   non  white  ,  obvi  )  i ‘ d  really  appreciate  if  you  could  contribute  to  this  if  you  have  a  different  view  on  this  than  mine  ?

DEAR  WHITE  RPC  —   people  of  color  are  not  interchangeable  .  we  have  different  backgrounds  ,  different  cultures  ,  a  differnet  world  view  ,  different  everything  ,  except  ,  you  know  ,  being  discriminated  against  by  the  whites  .  and  even  then  ,  we  still  have  different  misconceptions  ,  and  different  stereotypes  attached  to  us  by  you  . 

let ‘ s  say  that  you  write  a  south  asian  girl  ,  and  suddenly  you  decide  to  change  faceclaims  to  a  black  girl  .  they  would  ,  obviously  ,  have  vastly  different  experiences   ----  i  mean  ,  hell  ,  a  lighter  skinned  person  and  a  darker  skinned  person  within  their  same  community  have  vastly  different  experiences  ----  what  makes  you  think  that  you  can  just  change  faceclaims  without  making  changes  ?

you  might  not  know  this  ,  or  understand  ,  because  you  haven ‘ t  felt  it  .  you  haven ‘ t  lived  it  .  but  everything  matters  .  how  you  are  perceived  by  your  community  matters  ,  and  how  your  community  is  perceived  by  the  world  matters  .  background  matters  ,  culture  matters  and  you  shouldn ‘ t  pretend  that  it  doesn ‘ t  .  it  all  factors  in  ,  and  is  a  part  of  you  .  you  might  be  too  busy  patting  yourself  in  the  back  for  being  “  inclusive  “  when  changing  your  faceclaims  without  making  the  necessary  changes  to  the  characters  to  notice  that  you  really  are  just  being  disrespectful  .  like  ,  seriously  ,  might  as  well  come  out  and  say  “ i  don ‘ t  see  color  .  ”  

the  purpose  of  this  blog  is  to  provide  a  platform  dedicated  to  amplify  the  voices  of  poc  muns  ,  anonymous  or  not  ,  whatever  you ‘ re  most  comfortable  with  ,  the  idea  here  is  for  all  of  us  to  address  issues  regarding  inclusivity  ,  and  racism  that  exist  in  the  rpc  ,  and  to  express  our  feelings  and  frustrations  with  micro  ,  or  macro  agressions  in  it  .  

non  -  poc  this  is  ,  in  a  way  ,  for  you  .  you  are  welcome  to  join  in  ,  however  ,  you ‘ re  not  welcome  to  talk  over  us,  impose  your  opinions,  or  invalidate  anything  that  is  expressed  on  this  space  .  also  ,  while  most  of  the  content  will  deal  with  stuff  you  can  definitely  learn  from  ,  and  heavily  encourages  to  better  yourself  ,  remember  that  it  isn ‘ t  our  job  to  educate  you  .
