Here’s a protest song from 1990...
Covid-19 impact so far in London...
“The map, included in the latest Office for National Statistics report, found that the most deprived regions suffered 55 deaths per 100,000 people, compared to 25 fatalities in the wealthiest areas.”
“The London boroughs of Newham, Brent and Hackney were the three worst-hit regions in all of the country, suffering 144, 142 and 127 deaths per 100,000, respectively.”
Back in 2004 - 2005 I lived in the borough of Hackney, Stoke Newington to be exact. It was in an old dilapidated town house, with 7 other misfits, every room was utilised as a bedroom. The only exceptions were the kitchen and 2 very dodgy toilets and bathrooms but we had a garden! Actually I had moved in before I found the worst toilet on the planet. Myself and another new comer tried soda crystals first but in the end a chisel was required to get rid of the gunk in the toilet bowl. The guy who lived on the ground floor used to play repeatedly on his guitar “We gotta get out of this place” by The Animals! The rent was cheap... however my travel was long (bus, tube and train to work). When I registered at the local doctors they gave me the BCG vaccine. The practice told me TB was high in Hackney, especially if you lived as most people did in flats or rented rooms.
In the immortal words of Oscar Wilde “If you are tired of London you’re tired of life”... well I was tired of travelling and by that stage all my friends had left London. I abandoned London and headed down a few junctions west on the M4.
