rambleonamazon:
A lot of people have explained it better than me recently, but a large contingent of the trans community has engaged in a lot of dialogue the past few days, ever since Vanity Fair announced their Caitlyn Jennerās cover story, most of which revolves around the idea that the world only seems to embrace us if weāre wealthy enough or lucky enough to adhere to white, cisnormative beauty standards. Iāve felt frustrated and useless and overwhelmed by opinions on transgender women and how weāre āsupposedā to look if we want to be taken seriously.
But not all of us adhere to those standards. Not all of us want to. Not all of us can. Some of us do, but only out of fear. Some of us do but we arenāt sure why. And whether we fit those standards or not, weāre beautiful, and we all deserve to feel beautiful, and be acknowledged by the world. Admiration and praise for trans women shouldnāt only come if we fit a narrow definition of beauty. As a good friend of mine said Monday āWhereās my Vanity Fair cover?ā
Well, itās here (in white) and here (in black). Please share these and the hashtag #MyVanityFairCover and show the world the myriad faces of the trans community.
Call meĀ Mackenzie.

WARNING:Ā Cisnormative standards need not apply. I was extremely fortunate to have many mutuals, among them rambleonamazon and naidje[and others!!] have this on my dashboard early on, little did I know itād become a trending topic #MyVanityFairCover !!! I am reluctant to say I feel as if Iām not only riding their coattails, but also Caitlyn Jennerās coattails. I likely am just feeling a bit strongly of the media circus around it, also not to mention the uncomfortable conversations that have come from cis people thereof. I am here to say that we took it! All us trans girls took this and RAN with it! :D I am so happy to witness this and now jump on and be a part of it. It is amazing that all these trans women took what could possibly and uncomfortable situation and make the conversation about us, where I know it belongs. Jenner, do ya thing, have your day, meanwhile the rest of us struggling to get our daily needs met and dysphoria dealt with will continue the conversation.Ā What many outside our community fail to see is that most of us lack the support system needed to successfully complete transition[if it is ever something to be completed anyhow] and yes, some of us[myself included] have wrangled resources to alleviate our dysphoria, but I am here to say that even then the daily struggle of those imprisoned, both incarcerated and by family members or class situation, is never over. Until something like a celebrityās transition becomes less of a ^gasp* news story and more of a solidarity amongst those who feel similar, I fear the fight is nowhere near over: It has just begun. Chealsea Manning, Lana Wachowski, Martine Rothblatt, Laverne Cox, Janet Mock, Jazz Jennings and many more are still being gawked at[jenner and myself included] and objectified at the basic level, with many people going so far as invalidating our identities and making us only hashtags after we get murdered. We are not a few retweets, reblogs, and facebook posts away from complete awareness, homophobia is still rampant and thatās supposed to be widely accepted, no? Trans people become more and more punching bags for the publicās own gender insecurities.Ā
Will this fight be over by the time Iām Caitlynās age? I would hope so. Until then I will fight on to bring a positive light to the transfeminine experience through my blog and personal support. Thank you and please reblog this and any other covers you feel like will get the message out that we are trans, we are angry, and we aināt taking it no more.
