But imagine you have that. You have all of that. You, for the first time in your life, have people who love you and take care of you and seem to actually genuinely like you. And then one day you wake up and it's gone. Every one of those people are gone and the ones who are still in your vicinity are all but already gone. ill be a little bit sappy but the podium ceremony got me. max usually does not react in a big way to du-du-du chants. he smiles at most, notably last year at monza, claims he gets ptsd from it at worst. but today he seemed ???surprised??? people were chanting it? he encouraged it a little, but with his back to the crowd, kinda like he was embarrassed to do so, then he took his trophy and when he turned around for the photos, he looked onto the crowd almost in disbelief. in my head i imagine it's because he expects perfection from himself and this race and this season has been anything but perfect, so that disbelief must be coming at least for a little bit from the dedication to him, even at his worst. he might try to be the most well adjusted sportsperson in the world, but it does kill him when he can't do his best. and today seemingly he didn't do his best (well known max fact is that to him p2 is the first loser) and he didn't do his best this weekend (crashed even though it's not his fault) and all those people are still devoted worshipers despite it all. he probably didn't hear that the people sang it all the way to the podium. he probably only thought they sang it only as he was coming out. and to hear people cheer you on like that for what you consider to be a disappointment? well it must be pretty nice considering how much hate you get from nearly everyone in the sport. oh max verstappen how you move me
