I have some slight consternations regarding the upcoming Falling for the Fool chapter. I think it'll be the best work I've written up to this point, but I worry that some parts of it might come off as me standing on a soapbox, or projecting too much of myself onto the page, through the outlet of Naoto Shirogane.
Without going into too much detail, there's some discussion of religion and the role/danger of dogma for someone who claims to live their life based in logic and reasoning (Naoto has been implied to be one of the rare Japanese Christians in previous chapters, but it becomes more apparent here; up to this point, the most notable indication has been that he's the only character that uses "Christ" as an expletive), as well as the fact that Naoto's occupation is to help uphold the law, and yet he flagrantly chooses to ignore laws that he finds unjust or even simply inconvenient, both in previous chapters as well as during a certain event in this one. It's no secret that much of Naoto's thoughts and experiences throughout FFTF are based on my own, and I don't want to come across as preachy. Granted, it's not as if Naoto is quoting Bible verses in this chapter or anything of that sort; this is not a Christian fic. Yet, I still hesitate. Food for thought, I suppose, but it's only food for myself in this case.
I've also begun the process of 'remastering', so to speak, some of the earliest FFTF chapters to be more in line with my current writing style. They've not been updated on FFTF itself yet, though, but only due to my own hesitancy. I've spoken to two fellow writers on the subject of going into old chapters and editing their contents for consistency purposes, and one was staunchly opposed to the idea, and the other was supportive. I ultimately find myself leaning towards the idea that 'I want my fanfic to be the best work it can possibly be, and if that means the original version of a Chapter is no longer accessible, then so be it.'
But it's a difficult question nonetheless.
