I find it greatly offending how BS/Sun groupies do whatever it takes to twist the story so that it fits their agenda.
Bumbleby was planned from the concept art/early writing stages already (just look at early designs, Blake & Yang were always meant complement each other visually).
Their original Emerald Forest encounter was already flirty & playful and was most probably changed in order to give them more time to show the audience this gradually growing attraction/romance.
They also balance each other out both emotionally and in combat. Blake is a calculating and a "bigger picture" girl, whilst Yang is brash and a "here and now" type. Blake is a stealthy, more long range fighter, Yang is jumping straight in the middle of a fight with a short range fighting style. It's a Yin&Yang pairing.
There are so many diect parallels between Blake's last romantic partner and Yang (as well as Arkos & Renora), but it's also shown how even if there are similarities, those qualities - if utilised well - can be lovable. Passion does not have to consume everything in its way, it can build. Hot-headedness does not have to destroy, it can teach you how to slow down & grow. Everything Blake missed in Adam was there tenfold in Yang. She never pushed her, only showed that she's there & she's safe if Blake needed her.
It was never a question they would end up together. The only question was when.
OUUHH WHERE ARE THEYY
Blacksun shippers are so annoying. Stop using a creator that passed away as a reason to justify why your ship should be canon. You toxic shippers don’t know a damn thing about him and your ship wasn’t planned to happen. It’s already confirmed that it wasn’t
wild how in volume 4 blake and sun got a song like "you are my friend and you need to let me in so i can support you" and blake and yang got a song like "we should fuck nasty in our blissful private sanctuary" and people acted like these were equivalently weighted evidence of who she'd end up with. they went to war over it. never underestimate comphet

RWBY: Why I dont Agree that Bumbleby is a great ship..its a 6/10 ship at best. Hear me out.
I know this pairing has huge following, and the worst fan base I've seen in all of toxic fan base history, but when the show finally decided to make them official something just didn't feel.. right to me . Like, when I watched it I wasn't excited when it happened because I just feel that it was undeserved. Blake and yang are teammates sure, their friends sure but the basis of their relationship and how they got together was just through their trauma bonding and that's it. Up until then Yang felt like the "supportive friend whose shoulder you can cry on whenever you need to" type of person to Blake and that's it. Even when she tried to get Blake to confront her problems and open up about them it didn't work since in volume 4 she ended up running away and leaving her behind when Adam showed up. That is UNDERSTANABLE, but still WRONG. this was Blakes #1 Flaw in her character.
But, guess who actually succeeded in getting her to change and abandon that habit for the better. Who got her to fix that flaw? Sun Wukong, who, in my honest opinion, should have been the end game romance choice for her . People like the hate on Sun Wukong only because he followed her at the beginning of volume 4 but let's be real, if he had not of done that then Blake's story would have concluded right then and there since Adam was following her anyway and he managed to help her fight him off the island that he had followed her too. Hell, even the heart to heart moment that they shared on the couch together after he got injured was one of Suns greatest moments showed how good his character and Suitor he is to her because it shows how emotionally intelligent he is and how well he compliments her. At least with Sun he gave her the strength to go back and finally confront her problems. Yang couldn't do that.
Now I stopped watching the show after volume four but my little sister gave me the updates volumes 6-9 and from what she's told me is that Blake and Yang interactions with each other up to the point were they kiss was ...weird to watch. They become insufferably and unnecessarily dependent on each other to the point where it feels...forced. I just want to say that I don't think Blake and yang themselves are bad characters to a degree, they both have their understandable flaws just like Sun Wukong did and that's okay. However, in those later volumes it just feels like both women are reduced to girlfriend a and girlfriend b and thats all, like this is who their characters will just exist to be. There stories LITERALLY CONCLUDE after kill Adam so whats their purpose now other than to serve as the bi/lesbian couple of the group? Another thing I want to include is that There was no proper build up to the relationship. To those of you that like the pairing I just want to ask to just for a quick second take off the Bumblebee glasses rewatch The show, rewatch all the moments Blake had with Sun Wukong , rewatch all the moments she had with yang and ask yourself was this really well thought out?
Now, something I also want to address here as well is how Rooster teeth handled the writing between these two. IThey ship teased both yang and sun with Blake during the earlier volumes it leaning towards sun and Blake showing interest in each other for example during the tournament arc when sun pointed at Blake in the crowd you literally see her blush and call him a dork playfully. Now with that being said keep in mind It was also recently revealed by the writers that if they were up to them they would cut down on the black Sun moments in order to make room for more Bumblebee moments leading up to it becoming Canon . If this were the case then why even bother having all these teasing moments between Blake and sun wukong? Why give the two of them literally a whole volume dedicated to them traveling with each other to which you can tell they were all so ship teasing them there on the island as well . Call me a conspiracy theorist or delusional or whatever but I honestly believed the comment by Kerry to cut back on the black son moments to be 100% a lie . You're telling me with a straight face that from the beginning of the shows development y'all had the plan to make Blake and yang a couple but yet you threw in all these ship teasing moments with son Wukong as well ?
I just honestly don't like the way they paired her up with yang and I believe that she could have been paired with the right person . I mean .. come on man it was even obvious from volumes 1 and 2 that the past team working on the show was going in the direction of sun and Blake becoming a possible romantic pairing
'Emotionally intelligent' and 'Sun Wukong' doesn't seem right in the same sentence lmao.
He's proven time and time again in the first 4 Volumes (at least) that he doesn't understand Blake and her struggles at all. He was introduced early on as this quirky, easy-going, carefree guy, a clear contrast to Blake's closed-off, emotionally unavailable, distant persona. There are constant disagreements between them because he fails to understand her. But guess who was actually able to get through to Blake? Yeah, her partner.
It's shown multiple times that Blake is annoyed with him. He follows (stalks) her against her will, we see how incompatible they are together in a fight, she slaps him on more than one occasion as a last resort to get the message through. Even after all the time they've spent together at Beacon, he thinks Blake is the type who'd want revenge...
Yang not being the one who helped Blake overcoming her bad habit of running away? Well, since Blake basically ran away from her while Yang was recovering from losing a limb, it would've been a challenge, don't you think? If you think this is a valid argument for Sun, well that's just hilarious.
Interesting to say the ship had "no buildup" when you admitted not watching the show from V5 onwards. For one, slow burn romance means that the relationship is built over time, not pushing them together after five seconds. WLW ships always gets downplayed because apparently if a boy & a girl as much as look at each other, it's clear attraction, but emotionally opening up to someone, sacrificing an arm for them, missing the other like crazy, gazing lovingly at each other after reuniting and defeating a crazy ex/abuser together is having "no buildup".
Bumbleby had moments from the beginning.
Their interaction in the Emerald Forest (Blake specifically picking Yang who in return quips a playful 'I could've taken him' which would a 100% be interpreted as flirting if she was a guy)
The censored Yang showing how she can tie a cherry stem with her tongue (again, that's flirting, you don't do that with a friend)
The whole "I'll save you a dance *wink*" with the soft, romantic lighting (+ Blake actually taking Yang up on her offer)
Blake comparing Yang during the Vytal Tournament to Adam (y'know, the ex romantic partner)
Yang calling Blake when the school was attacked + Blake immediately concerned for her safety
Yang (not Sun) going to find Blake amidst the chaos + Adam clocking how Blake loves Yang just from a single look ++ Yang losing an arm for Blake +++ Blake holding Yang's hand, sobbing
Blake so guilt stricken by what happened that she up and leaves, then spends a whole volume trying to get to terms with how she can't keep pushing people away in fear of something bad happening to them bc of her ++ her voice cracking on Yang's name
Yang looking sadly at a pile of books, thinking about Blake, missing her & hurting badly
Yang still masking her hurt over Blake in V5 with anger, having a heart-to-heart with Weiss about how she really feels & that she needs Blake by her side ++ the scene deliberately cutting to Blake sadly looking at the jungle/night sky from her balcony, showing the viewers how they're both hurting over the other
The infamous Blake zeroing in on Yang during the Battle of Haven with the soft music in the background & them just staring at each other from across the room
The reunion with the close ups+music
The palpable awkward tension throughout V6 with Blake desperately trying to "win Yang back". The soft moments, the soft touches, the adoring looks
The whole fight sequence with Adam + hand holdings ++ Adam's confirmation of Blake having feelings for Yang ("What does she even see in you?")
Their open flirting in V7 ++ other characters making note of the blossoming relationship
The yearning in V8 while separated ("Do you think she thinks less of me?") ++ the romantic face cupping with the blush & forehead touch
Weiss pulling Blake back from the ledge from jumping after a fallen Yang ++ Blake's desperate scream + wanting to end Neo
V9's endless amount of flirting ++ Weiss & Jaune confirming that them getting together was a long time coming
So yeah, you can try to diminish their romance and slowly built relationship, but the build-up was still there, even if you watched with your eyes closed. They had to grow as individuals, shedding their masks, overcoming demons before they were ready for it. And that's what makes it a lovable romance. 🖤💛🐝🫳🏻🎤
Sun is goofy, loud, and reckless, but that is not the same thing as lacking emotional intelligence. In Volume 4, he is the one who finally calls Blake out on her real issue: she thinks leaving people is “protecting” them. Sun tells her, in plain words, that she does not get to decide whether her friends fight for her, and that pushing them away hurts more than the villains do. That is not a guy who “doesn’t understand Blake.” That is literally him understanding the emotional root of her running-away habit better than almost anyone else at that point.
The “Sun stalked Blake” argument is also exaggerated. Yes, he followed her without permission, and that was messy. But the context matters: he thought Blake was going alone on a dangerous White Fang mission after Beacon, not sneaking after her for creepy romantic reasons. Once he learns she is going home to Menagerie, he stays because Blake is still in danger and because the White Fang problem is real. The story itself proves his concern was justified: a Grimm attacks the ship, White Fang activity is happening in Menagerie, Ilia becomes involved, and Sun later gets seriously hurt protecting Blake.
The slapping point is weak too. Blake slapping Sun is not proof that Sun is evil or incompatible; it is proof that Blake is traumatized, defensive, and bad at communicating. Even the production-side note on “A Much Needed Talk” says Miles Luna intended the slaps to be softer shoulder hits, and Arryn Zech framed Blake’s outburst as tied to abuse trauma and Blake’s guilt, not as “Sun deserved it because he’s a monster.”
And the “Yang got through to Blake, not Sun” argument ignores the difference between two different problems. Yang helped Blake in Volume 2 when Blake was overworking herself and obsessing over Roman. That was important. But Sun helped Blake with her bigger recurring flaw: running away from the people who love her. In Volume 4, Blake literally says her friends are better off without her, and Sun is the one who challenges that directly. He even brings Yang into it by saying Yang would also choose to protect Blake, which means Sun was not trying to replace Yang; he was helping Blake understand Yang’s pain too.
The “Sun thought Blake wanted revenge” point is also not the slam dunk they think it is. From Sun’s perspective, Blake had a deep White Fang history, disappeared after Beacon, and was traveling alone while Adam and the White Fang were still active. Thinking she might be chasing the White Fang is a reasonable misunderstanding, not proof that he “doesn’t know her.” The important part is that once Blake explains herself, Sun listens and adjusts. That matters more than him guessing wrong once.
As for Bumbleby “having moments from the beginning,” some of those moments are real bonding moments, but the argument overstates a lot. Yang saving Blake, comforting her, missing her, or fighting Adam with her can support a romantic reading, but those scenes also work as partner/friendship/trauma-bond scenes. A character sacrificing herself for a teammate is not automatically romance. Adam saying “What does she even see in you?” shows Adam’s jealousy and possessiveness, but Adam is an abuser weaponizing Blake’s attachments; his interpretation should not be treated like objective confirmation of Blake’s feelings.
Sun and Blake, meanwhile, had much more direct early romantic coding. Blake opens up to Sun about her White Fang past very early, he does not reject her, they fight together against Torchwick and the White Fang, he goes to the dance with her, they slow dance, and Blake openly jokes that she knew he would look better in a tie. That is not “five seconds of boy and girl looking at each other.” That is repeated trust, banter, vulnerability, and partnership across multiple arcs.
The biggest reason Sun works better for Blake is that he balances her without becoming another source of control. Adam controlled Blake. Blake’s fear made her isolate herself. Sun does the opposite: he follows because he cares, but he does not trap her, guilt her into romance, or make her recovery about him. He helps her reconnect with her parents, face the White Fang, stop pushing people away, and return to her team stronger. Then, when his part in her growth is done, he lets her go.
So no, Sun is not “too dumb” to understand Blake. He is goofy on the surface, but emotionally, he does exactly what Blake needed: he stays when she tries to isolate, calls her out without hating her, protects her without owning her, reminds her that her friends choose to love her, and helps her become brave enough to stop running. That is why Sun Wukong is one of the most important people in Blake’s development.
Sun is smarter than people give him credit for because his intelligence is not loud, academic, or dramatic. It is practical. He reads situations through action. He notices when someone is alone too often, when they are hiding pain behind distance, and when they are about to make a bad emotional decision. That is exactly why he works with Blake. Blake is a character who overthinks, isolates, and punishes herself. Sun is the opposite: he cuts through the spiral and brings things back to something simple and human.
The eye-opening part is this: Sun was “wrong” about Blake’s surface motive, but right about her deeper problem. In Volume 4, he initially assumes Blake is going after the White Fang, which is incorrect. But immediately after that, he asks the important question: why is she sorting things out alone instead of with her team and friends? That is the real issue. Blake is not just running from danger; she is running from connection. Sun sees that pattern before Blake is ready to admit it.
Again,
That is why calling him “emotionally unintelligent” is unfair. In “Taking Control,” Blake says she is done seeing friends hurt because of her, that Ruby, Weiss, and Yang were her friends, and that she thinks they are better off without her. Sun’s response is not a joke. He tells her she is not being selfless, she is taking away her friends’ choice, and that pushing them out hurts more than the enemy ever could. That is one of the clearest emotional reads anyone gives Blake in the early show.
And that is why a romantic relationship between Sun and Blake actually makes sense. Blake does not need someone who mirrors her darkness all the time. She needs someone who can step into that darkness without becoming consumed by it. Sun brings warmth without being shallow. He jokes, but he also stays. He flirts, but he does not try to own her. He protects her, but he does not make her feel weak. He challenges her, but he does not shame her. That is a healthy romantic foundation.
People act like Sun is just comic relief, but look at what Blake actually gives him: trust. In Volume 1, she opens up to him about her White Fang past, something deeply personal and shameful to her. Sun is shocked, yes, but he still jumps into the fight to help her. That matters. Blake’s whole story is about fear of rejection, and Sun’s first major role is showing her, “I know this ugly part of your past, and I’m still here.”
Their romance is good because Sun helps Blake become more herself, not less. With Adam, love meant control. With Blake’s guilt, love meant danger. With Sun, love means choice. He tells her that her friends choose to fight for her. That idea directly attacks the damage Adam left behind: the belief that Blake’s presence ruins people. Sun’s love would not trap Blake. It would remind her she is allowed to be loved without running away.
Their dynamic also has balance. Blake is serious, guarded, intense, and guilt-driven. Sun is open, playful, brave, and emotionally direct. That contrast is not incompatibility; it is chemistry. A good partner does not have to be identical to you. Sometimes the best partner is the person who brings out the part of you that trauma buried. Sun brings out Blake’s softness, humor, trust, and willingness to let people in.
The dance scene is a good example of that softer side. Blake shows up with Sun, jokes that she knew he would look better in a tie, takes his arm, and later dances with him after Yang’s first dance. That is not Blake being miserable around him. That is Blake letting herself relax, tease, laugh, and be a normal girl for once instead of carrying the entire White Fang conflict on her shoulders.
So the real argument is not “Sun is perfect because he never messes up.” He does mess up. He can be reckless. He can misread things. But his mistakes are not cruel. They come from caring, and when Blake pushes back, he learns. That is what makes him better than people think: he grows, he listens, and he loves in a way that gives Blake room to breathe.
Sun and Blake work romantically because he is not trying to be her savior, owner, or replacement partner. He is the person who walks beside her when she is trying to disappear, makes her laugh when she is drowning in guilt, calls her out when she lies to herself, and proves that someone can know her past and still choose her. For Blake Belladonna, that is not just cute. That is healing.
I can also go in depth about how I personally think that BB is also a TOXIC relationship
Honestly, it's clear you're twisting everything I pointed out as "Bmblb fans see Sun as evil". Where the hell did you get that bro?
Me explaining why Sun is not working for Blake as a romantic interest has nothing to do with "hating him". He's just simply bland.
Nothing you've listed here is evidence for him being a good option. All he did was be there for her as a friend, what he always has been from the beginning. If you're using the argument "helping someone in need is not romantically coded" with how Yang has helped Blake, then same goes for Sun, especially since he CONFIRMS it was never about that.
Saying that Bumbleby is toxic is once again proof you guys know nothing about toxicity. You're just twisting the story in your head to give room for your weird headcanons.
RWBY: Why I dont Agree that Bumbleby is a great ship..its a 6/10 ship at best. Hear me out.
