Stop Deforestation

Please become educated on a major global issue. 

Forests used to cover 14 percent of the earth land surface, and now in 2013 they only cover 6 percent

Deforestation is the destruction of naturally occurring forests, primarily due to human activities such as logging(which is illegal), cutting trees for fuel, slash-and-burn agriculture, clearing land for livestock grazing, mining operations, oil extraction, dam building, and urban sprawl or other types of development and population expansion. Some deforestation is not intentional, like wildfires.  

You might be thinking, deforestation has been going on for centuries and I have yet to be affected by it. However, there are many long term affects from deforestation.For example, many species will become extinct, ruling out the possibility that they could of helped out medically. Also, deforestation is a major contributor to green house gasses, which leads to climate change. Finally, deforestation causes soil erosion, which means farming on that land is much harder because decreased amount of nutrients in the soil. So before you completely dismiss the importance of deforestation, think about what effects it has on you and the world

I know there are not a lot of forest in america, so we cannot understand the destruction of the forest. Even though it may not affect you immediately because it is not happening where we live, it is affecting the earth and the nature and will affect us in the long run.
