So, some of y'all took interest to my post about writing Omega Connor with BAD baby fever a couple days ago. Well, with my job about to absolutely step its pussy up for the next two weeks, I know I won't have near as much writing time. It's all part of a really long Bedmint fic that I'm putting way too much thought into, so until I have the whole thing where I want it, have a snippet of that scene:
“Hey, Fraser,” he turned to see Madi at his side, badly containing giggles over her hand. “Look over to the deck, but be subtle.”
With a raised eyebrow and a small push from her, he did turn slowly to look behind him.
Up in the circle of various patio furniture were a couple of the omega and beta women from the Minten family. Right in the middle, Connor was sitting in the chair between Chantal and Fraser’s cousin, both of them directing him with careful hands as he held the baby close to his chest. He was always so good at making two opposite things true at once. The small pup against him made him look huge, all bulky frame and athlete’s musculature that almost guaranteed his cemented future career. However, it was also the tiniest Fraser had ever seen him. His hands moved gently and his big, blue eyes were wide with wonder as he looked at the precious little thing he’d been handed. By the looks on the faces of the women around him, Fraser could tell the pup was smiling, laughing, something positive. They were all cooing at him, rubbing his back and saying soft words Fraser couldn’t hear, but Connor wasn’t focused on any of it. It was like his whole world at that moment revolved around the tiny bundle he was holding.
Fraser couldn’t find words to it, but it just looked right. It looked like he was doing something he belonged doing. Not in a sexist, creepy way, but in the same way that somebody could look at him on the ice and simply knew that that’s where he was supposed to be. He looked relaxed, soft, lips twisted in a wobbly smile that let Fraser know he’d hear the purring coming from the omega if he was close enough.
It really made Fraser stop and consider things. Connor didn’t let himself take moments like that very often. It was a whole joke for the Pats that he was the least omega to ever omega, a joke that Connor laughed along with and agreed to every time. Yet, Connor was the soft one, the one checking to see if everyone ate and making mini nests in the back row of buses when the trip was longer than 20 minutes. He didn’t pick actual fights very often but he stood up for people, making sure the voices were heard. Maybe it shouldn’t be that shocking when he did fall into a stereotype or three.
The pup started to softly cry and Connor made a face. He turned to the mother and made a comment with no hesitation or panic, just stating whatever he had to say. Whatever it was must have caught her off guard based on the look on her face. The brief shock from the various women surrounding them made Fraser guess he’d probably identified the sound correctly, gauging the baby’s need on the first try. The immediate smiles and nods confirmed that theory.
His cousin moved to take the baby back and he just barely caught the flash of horrible sadness across Connor’s face. Very reluctantly he handed the baby over, missing the understanding smiles from the ladies around him. That look didn’t leave as he kept staring at the pup, even as the conversation seemed to drift forward around him.
Madi gave Fraser a pat on the shoulder, craning her head up to look at him when he finally pulled his eyes away from the deck. “You’ll have that too someday. Get ready to see that everyday for a while if he has any say in it.”
And oh, wasn’t that a gorgeous mental image?
Let me know your thoughts and if this makes the wait worse or better 😅
