thinking about how much MORE u end up hurting daniel by going for the successful/peaceful/"ideal" outcome in The Hostage...like, u cant save him, even if u play perfectly. u can pretty much play a completely bloodless run but you'll never save daniel...my doomed yaoiz 💔💔

Something that I always think about is how out of all the deviants in the story, Daniel is the closest you can get to a sort of Frankenstein's Monster allegory. You can't judge his actions from an adult-human-lived-experiences kind of lens, because that's not what he is. He's a very obvious example of what happens when you create life but don't nurture it, when you give a newly sentient being all the complex emotions and fears associated with the human experience and none of the guidance to manage or regulate any of it. It's your first day of living, and the only family you've ever known, the family that you've loved for your entire existence, condemns you to die. Who the hell is going to react well to that????
