"Mon désir est monopolisé par un homme rencontré quelques semaines auparavant qui me malmène ou au travers duquel je me malmène."
Adèle Yon, Mon nom vrai nom est Elizabeth
to live a life of only ease would not be a true human life. to live a human life, delicious and carving into you and filling you up, is to be touched by all things, to touch all things. to experience the depth of emotion, to be challenged, to grow, to fail and try again. to know multitudes and to be a contradiction.
some things can only be understood in contradictory terms and sometimes forcing clarity will simply not do
Cecília Meireles, from a poem titled "And There Was Fire," featured in Antologia Poética

“Hoy no he hecho nada
Pero muchas cosas se hicieron en mí”
– Roberto Juarroz, from “Hoy no he echo nada,”
Une belle année est une année à perdre son temps
“I’ve learned that it’s OK to be flawed, that life can be messy, that some days you glide and some days you fall, but most important, that there are no secret answers out there. When you finally accept that it’s OK not to have answers and it’s OK not to be perfect, you realize that feeling confused is a normal part of what it is to be a human being.”
— Winona Ryder

You're always gonna disappoint somebody. Exactly. So fuck it.

“… The essential of what, for me, is significant in a life: desire, ardor, intensity, paradox, intelligence, honesty, lucidity.”
— Nicole Brossard, tr. by Jennifer Moxley, from Selections: Poems; [“Rustling and Punctuation,”]
the thing i'm surprised by as i grow as a thinker every day, and especially this year, is how much of thinking is developing and fine-tuning your sense of intuition
thinking really is just living more sensitively on different registers
i have a sense, i intuit, i'm not really sure why but...
i often have a hunch for why i may believe something but not the language to back it up because it really is an engagement of your faculties and there's very little use in delineating those out. in fact i imagine there may even be a loss
and this is not even to account for when you think with people, what it adds relationally, etc etc
“desire is the first to be colonized and the last to be freed…”
“Besides, she knew, directly she came into the room, that the miracle had happened; she wore her golden haze. Sometimes she had it; sometimes not. She never knew why it came or why it went, or if she had it until she came into the room and then she knew instantly by the way some man looked at her. Yes, tonight she had it, tremendously.”
— Virginia Woolf, from To the Lighthouse

“An honorable human relationship — that is, one in which two people have the right to use the word “love” — is a process, delicate, violent, often terrifying to both persons involved, a process of refining the truths they can tell each other. It is important to do this because it breaks down human self-delusion and isolation. It is important to do this because in doing so we do justice to our own complexity. It is important to do this because we can count on so few people to go that hard way with us.It isn’t that to have an honorable relationship with you, I have to understand everything, or tell you everything at once, or that I can know, beforehand, everything I need to tell you. It means that most of the time I am eager, longing for the possibility of telling you. That these possibilities may seem frightening, but not destructive, to me. That I feel strong enough to hear your tentative and groping words. That we both know we are trying, all the time, to extend the possibilities of truth between us.The possibility of life between us.”
Adrienne Rich, from On Lies, Secrets & Silence
