I was actually pretty stoked to get someone from home for this Secret Santa thing. Getting someone you hardly know makes gifting that much harder, but as soon as I got your name, I got an idea. I know it isnât much now, but when I looked into it, it sounded really cool. The best part about a beach party? A bunch of people in one place, a prime location for a prank. The worst part about a beach party? Stefan had nowhere to hide the pair of pliers heâd come across behind the DJ booth. Someone must have had them there to tune some wires or tighten a bolt or somethingâŚBut it was almost likeâŚhe was meant to stumble upon them. And he took one look at the inflatable slide and, though heâd resigned himself to a life of no shenanigans since last yearâs prom fiasco. Boy, was he itching to wreak some havoc on that inflatable slide. He held the pliers in his hand, curling his fingers around the handle until he heard footsteps behind him and instantly hid them behind his back. âIs this the line for the water slide?â he asked as nonchalantly as he could with a potential weapon in his hand.Â
Ember had to admit, an end of summer beach bash was right up her alley; she much preferred the multitude of options over just sweating in the middle of a crowd of her peers to music she wasn't completely familiar with. And after seeing her brother and his not-so-secret girlfriend kissing on the jumbo screen? She was glad that there were event areas to disappear in. Taking advantage of one of the few things she enjoyed about having the body of a Clumsy, Ember made a beeline to the water features; not at risk of drowning or being weighed down because of her wings--not that she needed any more help being weighed down in her Clumsy body--running away to one of the many different water features was a welcome distraction, and as soon as she saw Stevie Stefan, so was he. "Distract me, please," she started, taking a few more extra seconds than normal to pick up on his body language. "Yooou...are up to something." she stated, eyeing him with feigned suspicion, immediately elated because whatever that look on his face meant, meant that she was in the right place, at the right time. "Which means you've obviously lost your touch in your old age," the girl teased. "Whatever it is, I want in, I donât care. Distract me, please." she repeated her first plea. She didn't care what he was up to as long as it erased the image of her brother making out with his devil spawn of an apparent girlfriend out of her head. Gross.
âI swear these chaperones are hovering around me like drones,â Stefan muttered out loud, taking a large performative gulp of his punch in front of the college student whoâd clearly been told to keep an eye on him specifically. âSee?! Not spiked!â He rolled his eyes. Maybe it was smart of them to take extra precautions around the boy who had a personal grievance around this event in particular and, therefor, even more of a reason to actually sabotage it this time. But truly, he just wanted to have a good time with the junior class. âThink if I had a date Iâd look less suspicious to them?âÂ
"I never understood why the WU adults chaperoned high school events. Like, youâd think college would be the glory days they want to relive--or live, in this case--not high school.â Ember admitted, wiggling her fingers at Stevieâs Stefanâs own personal Watchmen with a fake smile. âAnd shouldnât they be studying for finals or something? Or, I donât know, having their own party while we experience ours?â she asked loud enough for them to hear. Rolling her eyes and disregarding the college studentâs shadowy presence, she offered Stefan a genuine smile and laughed. âI highly doubt youâd completely spy free even then, but at least you get to be here? Itâdâve been pretty sucky if you had to miss out. Letâs be honest though, Youâre just gonna have face it, Stefan Westergaard. Youâre infamous. ...But at least youâre not going to go down in history as the girl that went to Junior Prom with Shray Majik...â

Now that Iâve been officially cleared of my non-involvement in last yearâs prom stink bomb, Walt High owes me for a loss of my final sophomore semester. I definitely think there should be some sort of Get Out of Jail Free card slid your way, it only seems fair. Even if with stipulations*, â*No arson, no bodily harm to students or faculty alike, etc.â But! Coming back in time to actually stink bomb a prom? That just feels right. You know what experience Iâm kind of sad I never got to actually live through? The whole âbig envelope/small envelopeâ college letter thing you always see on TV! When I get acceptances and rejections next month, theyâre all going to just come straight to my email â I canât be the only one sad that I wonât be able to literally hold my future in my hands when the time comes, right?
If you want I can get one of the computer nerds to spoof your e-mail or whatever and print them out and put them in big or small envelopes for you. Then you can get the True Experience. Not that there would be many--if any--small envelopes. Youâre too super scary dedicated to your education.
