The day is to celebrate the entire nation getting independence from the bitchass thing called British Empire and all the lives that were lost along the way to achieve that independence for the country as a whole.

So kindly stop whining like a bitch about, if you are independent or not, on this perticular day to look cool. And try to honour the ones that died for you to be able to say that. Celebrate the nation, celebrate it's part, it's present, it's diversity, it's culture, it's everything. Celebrate India that is Bharat.

“You have other days to complain” The reason you have all your rights is because people complained. India is not perfect and there is no point in pretending it is for one day.

We did get our independence from the British in 1947 but many of us still live in fear.

Being a dalit queer woman in india, I fear everyday, even today about my fate. So fuck off with your mother India nonsense and telling people to not complain from your happy little bubbles.

Yesterday on August 14th, I got into an argument with someone from college and I was told that I had no right to speak because of the caste I come from. What if it happened today on August 15th ? Would it change anything ?

“It’s not about your personal independence” Really ? What about groups of people ? Minorities, queer individuals, oppressed castes and classes ? Women ? Transgender people whose rights are reducing day by day ? Is that enough of a number that is oppressed or is it still only individual and personal still ?

At what number does oppression become political ?

I live in India because I happened to be born here. I didn’t choose it. And if you can fund my expenses, I’d happily leave.

Stop telling victims who live in fear on how to spend our independence day. Because the ones celebrating are privileged and free. If so many people have to live in fear, I don’t care to say “Happy independence day” and post 3 stories with a song and call it a day.
