Researchers find it predicts income, promotions, and job satisfaction.
An interesting look at how external relationships can impact the work outcomes.
Why empathy begets influence.
It’s at least a start...
An inner conflict for closeted homosexuals may fuel their aggression toward gays and lesbians.
Teen actress Amandla Stenberg speaks out against cultural appropriation.
"I've been seeing this question a lot on social media, and I think it's really relevant," she says. " 'What would America be like if we loved black people as much as we love black culture?'"

Dr. Robin DiAngelo explains why white people implode when talking about race.
“If we are against racism and unaware of committing racist acts, we can’t be racist; racism and being a good person have become mutually exclusive. But this definition does little to explain how racial hierarchies are consistently reproduced.”
As a person who has experienced a wide array of racially and ethnically insensitive choices, from individuals, structures and systems, to read this felt good; it reminded me that some people get it: there’s something not quite right about how we, in North America/the United States, at least, are so deeply racialized but trying to act as if it isn’t a problem--to ignore it--is not an answer. That very choice is part of the privilege of whiteness in the US. I hope this promotes continued engagement and healthy conversation around this topic.
When Sharon Chang tells her son that he is Asian and mixed-race, she's trying to help him understand what it means to be multiracial and a person of color in America.
"The right of a mixed-race person to self-construct and self-define, even today, endures continual policing from people with their own agendas."
We all face a deficit for growing up LGBT in a straight world. Admitting it is the first step in making sure the next generation gets a better deal.
I ran across this today: "Glorifying victimhood is rarely helpful, but denying it exists is ignorant and dangerous."
It is through recognizing this pole of the LGBTQIA experience that I have seen the person I am emerge: I may not want what everyone else has, and that's okay. I have to listen to what's inside, not on the outside; I really believe in systemic and social equality, I do, but it's not about a system for me, in which I participate. It is about honoring the values of the intention behind the social experiment: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. While the broadest of those definitions can be frightening and infringe upon the rights of others, there is space for people to have those things through legislated, equitable decisions.
At this point in history, that is not true for all citizens of the US as it is certainly not true for all people of the world. Does it really get better? Or do those of us who believe it simply learn how to live in the midst of the noise? Tune out and drop in because, otherwise, we'd have to admit the insanity of everyday life--the sharp disconnect between our perspective and reality.
It isn't a shock to know that I'm damaged and I know I'm not the only one and I'm not damaged in every way possible. What is shocking is the oft complete disregard from individuals and systems because somewhere, somehow, they have been convinced that they are arbiters of what should and should not be.
That gives no life. It provides no liberty; and it is not a part of my path to happiness.
The Independent Project is a result of a high school student's mission to create a school where students would feel fully engaged, have an opportunity to develop expertise in something, and learn how to learn.
My most recent work with an engaging collection of reflections from educational practitioners in the field of globalized integrated education. It provided a powerful mirror to my American conceptions of integration and inclusion in education--the shortcomings and the promises. What would happen if we took this philosophies into our teacher training programs? If we built the idea of conflicted societies--cultures and identities shifting and changing while being at odds with one another--into how educators, administrators and families participated in education, there might be a positive shift in outcomes. We might acknowledge some truths and fallacies that would create space for true transformation.

You wouldn't market to Prince Charles and Ozzy Osbourne the same way, right?
Though the employment of this goes against the core of queer theory, it is an interesting look at how systems are attempting to reconcile diverse behaviors through actual recognition. Segmentation can be dangerous because it relies on softer data than sheer numbers but is a necessity in "trending."
Personally, I struggle with the assignation of values according to manifestations on this plane; intentions are hard to quantify and are a difficult in a commodities market. These theories seem to be part of the reason Sam Smith faces some of the ridicule and judgment many people are subjected to when they fall short of the idealized paradigm--something marketing and media has told us should be prized and sought.
In all honesty, I think of the same thing; on some level I grapple with where I fall short of these internalized social values: am I thin enough? Can I be more attractive? Do I need to wear glasses? I should have contacts. I need to work out more. I have to diet.
The litany goes on and some of it is rooted in the reciprocal relationship founded in consumer culture: I have been told that I need something so much and so often, sometimes so subtly, that I believe it.
We’ve published a lot about it.
Something to ponder, particularly as humanism returns to the workplace. While there are professional boundaries to be maintained, we can also learn how to work with one another and not against each other.
And what managers need to know about negative ones.
"Professionalism is a funny term, because it masquerades as neutral despite being loaded with immense oppression. As a concept, professionalism is racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, classist, imperialist and so much more -- and yet people act like professionalism is non-political."
A short piece which challenges the mainstream commercialism of theatre without being exclusionary and demeaning.

My mom was a drug addict and so was this Cirque du Soleil star, but like most Americans they — and many LGBT addicts — don't fit our idea of what an "addict" is
I would call this a bit stronger than an op-ed piece, particularly when considering research surrounding emergence in the "scene" of urban gay life in the western world and the inevitable intrapersonal identity conflict of LGBTQ individuals in mainstream societies (though many are assimilating).
LA fashion week is a joke but THIS WAS PRETTY AMAZING
i swear this is the fiercest look i have ever seen
this is actually the coolest thing i’ve ever seen; more genders and races than you usually see on the runway during fashion week and being nonbinary is the point and it’s so beautiful omg
That opener though oh my gosh
I am living for this runway...YAAAAASSSSSS!
