David was… annoyed. He was disappointed. He was a little angry, too. As soon as he got back from his trip, the Nanny - whatever her name was, he forgot - dumped his daughter on him and went off to do something else. Didn’t they have more than one Nanny to swap with? Why was he left holding the baby? It wasn’t exactly what he wanted to do the minute he got home. Ivy squirmed and cried as he held her at arms length, so much so that he just put her on the floor to entertain herself whilst he went into the kitchen to get a drink. And text Carlotta and ask where the fuck she was.
Ivy was safe, though, he was stood watching her. He just didn’t want to hold her.
David checked his watch every two minutes and drank a good few glasses of whisky as he waited for his beloved wife to come back. He thought she might hurry more if he said he missed her, but she was still taking forever. And when the door opened, and she came inside, David sighed.
‘About time. I was beginning to think you’d decided to abandon us.’ He hadn’t moved from his spot, and Ivy had managed to roll herself a few spaces away from where he’d put her down on the hardwood floor in front of the door.
The last thing Carlotta had expected when she went out for a drink with a friend of hers was a text from her husband asking why she thought it was acceptable to leave their daughter with the nanny. Plus the accusation that she’d abandoned the girl, when in reality that was the last thing the new mother would ever want to do, her daughter was her life and anyone who saw the two of them together could see that. Paying as quickly as humanly possible at the wine bar she excused herself from the other woman’s company to hurry home as quickly as she could. A feat made harder by her very high and very expensive high heels, but still she jumped into the first taxi she saw to do exactly what David had asked of her as per usual.
Hurrying up the steps to their townhouse she let herself in with a perfect silver key, placing it into the key box near the door before turning a delighted smile on the considerably older man, heart swelling just from the sight of him. He might have used the words ‘I miss you’ as a ploy to get her back to their home faster but really there was no need, because the ex model had genuinely missed her other half. She always did, despite everything else that was nothing if not proof as to why she shouldn’t miss him at all. Ever.
“Sorry darling, I’m so sorry, I didn’t know you were going to be back so early I assumed I’d be here before you got home.” Clicking over to him she pressed a soft kiss to the man’s cheek, hand gently resting on his bicep over his suit. “How was your flight?” Looking over at Ivy where the girl sat drooling on the floor she gave her a little wave. “Hi princess, have you been a good girl for daddy? Where has the nanny gone?” She asked David with a small frown.
'I don't know.' David replied with a roll of his eyes. Did Carlotta really think that he would be here if he knew where the damn Nanny was? This whole thing was just... Ridiculous. David didn't know what to say.
With a huff, he walked back into the kitchen to pour himself another drink.
'Will you be going back out this week?' He asked. David knew he needed to spend more time with his wife to get himself in good books in the media. He had been away from her for too long.
'We should go for dinner.' He spoke to Carlotta from the kitchen, not even bothering to look at her.
