very helpful data munging tool to expedite your data handling time and get you faster to the analysis
Frequency Tables and Groupings
Started grouping the data using quarterly percentile bands just to see what it looks like. Used the income and internet users data for this with 1 lowest and 4 highest. Results are kinda predictable, I think. More work to be done to correlate the two datasets together somehow
Income (GDP per capita):
= GDP per capita <= 750
= GDP per capita between 751 and 2,500
= GDP per capita between 2,501 and 10,000
= Greater than 10,000 (the rich ones)
Internet (per 100 users):
= less than 10 people
= between 11 and 30 people
= between 31 and 50 people
= more than 50 people (over half the population are surfing)
Data in detail
For my research I´m digging into the following indicators:
Internet Users measured per 100 people and sourced from the World Bank for the year 2010
GDP per capita (constant US$) for 2010 sourced from World Bank for the year 2010
Political score which measures a country´s democratic and free nature from -10 (not democratic) to 10 (democratic). Sourced from Polity IV Project for the year 2009
Employment rate measured as a % of the over 15 population. Sourced from the International Labour Organisation for the year 2007
Female employment rate which is same as 4 but limited to females only
First observation - will the different years and significant gaps impact the research?
Research Question
Using the gapminder dataset the aim will be to answer the following two questions:
1. Is internet usage an even or uneven distribution globally favouring wealthier countries and is it affected by a countries political ideologies or leanings?
Data: Internetuserate, incomeperperson, polityscore
2. Does higher Internet usage mean more women are able to enter the workforce?
Data: femaleemployrate, employrate
